Houllier celebrates Cardiff triumph

Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier saluted his side after their last-gasp FA Cup victory over Arsenal on Saturday.

Two goals from Michael Owen sealed the win for the Merseysiders, after Fredrik Ljungberg had given Arsenal the lead.

The Londoners looked the better side for much of the game, but it was Houllier who had the last laugh.

"It was a game where the two teams were nullifying each other," he said.

"There were not a lot of chances because we gave the ball away and conceded a goal with a mistake.

"Our passing should have been better on the goal. The boys found the character to come back and Michael (Owen) and the substitutes made the difference.

Houllier admitted he was disappointed with Liverpool's first-half performance.

"Our play was not good - we were struggling with the heat," he said.

"Still, I thought we could score on set-pieces.

"And as soon as Michael scored goal I said we would win it."

Steven Gerrard picked up his first FA Cup winner's medal, claiming: "It was a very good game and the fans enjoyed it.

"The little fellow (Owen) worked wonders and got us back with two goals, though the game was not over until the final whistle.

"Arsenal always create chances, they are a great side."

Veteran midfielder Gary McAllister sparked the amazing comeback when he came onto the field as a second-half substitute with his team 1-0 down.

The Scottish star created the first for Owen, then stood back in awe as his team-mate slotted home the late winner.

"I was disappointed not to be in the starting line-up but that has happened to a few people this season," McAllister said.

"The manager looks to see how you respond.

"We have got a massive week ahead now. I can hardly believe what is happening."
