Bayern angry with Dutch over Arjen Robben injury

Bayern Munich will seek compensation from the Dutch Football Association after injury ruled Arjen Robben out of the first two months of the season.

It seems the hamstring injury which almost kept the Dutch winger out of the World Cup had not healed properly.

"It's irresponsible this was not diagnosed accurately and he has played with it," said Bayern club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt.

"I offered several times to help with the diagnosis but was not called."

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid player nearly missed out on playing in South Africa in the summer after sustaining a small tear in his left hamstring towards the end of a World Cup warm-up win over Hungary.

He had already scored two goals before injuring himself attempting a back-heel towards the end of the 6-1 win which was his country's final game before going to South Africa.

But he recovered to play a part in the tournament, appearing and being booked in the famously ill-tempered final, where the Dutch lost 1-0 to Spain.

Robben, who helped Bayern win the League and Cup double and reach the Champions League final in his first season at the club, said he was very disappointed and shocked by the diagnosis, as he felt he had made a full recovery.

"I played four World Cup games and went through 120 minutes in the final. After the final I felt no pain and that's why I went on vacation," he said.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said they would either seek compensation from the Dutch federation or take the matter to Fifa if necessary.

"Of course, Bayern Munich are very angry," said Rummenigge.

"Once again we must pay the bill as a club after a player is seriously injured playing for a national team."
