Franck Ribery signs new deal at Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery has signed a five-year contract extension which runs until June 2015.

The France international, 27, was linked with moves to Real Madrid and Manchester United last summer.

But he has since endured a difficult season and missed Saturday's 2-0 Champions League final defeat by Inter Milan due to suspension.

"We are pleased one of the world's best players has agreed to an extension," chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

Ribery, who joined Bayern for £17m from Marseille in June 2007, was sorely missed on Saturday as two strikes from Diego Milito ended Bayern's hopes of winning the European Cup for a fifth time.

It was a disappointing end to a campaign that got off to a slow start for Ribery as he struggled to recover from tendonitis in his left knee.

While his team went on to clinch a domestic double, Ribery made only 10 league starts before a red card against Lyon in the Champions League semi-final second leg led to a three-match ban that ruled him out of the final.

Ribery is likely to travel to the World Cup after being named as one of seven midfielders in a 24-man provisional squad by coach Raymond Domenech.
