Former Rangers boss Dick Advocaat has been appointed as Russia's new coach.

The 62-year-old takes over from fellow Dutchman and former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink who will turn his attentions to managing Turkey.

Advocaat was in charge for three years at Russian club Zenit St Petersburg and led the team to Uefa Cup glory in 2008 with a 2-0 win over Rangers.

He was sacked following a run of poor results, and in April resigned as coach of Belgium six months into the job.

Advocaat has also had spells in charge of Holland, the United Arab Emirates and South Korea, and was director of football at Ibrox from 1998 to 2002.

Hiddink will officially take charge of Turkey once his contract with Russia ends on 30 June.

The 63-year-old led Russia to the semi-finals at Euro 2008 but his team failed to qualify for this summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.
