Deschamps signs in
Deschamps completes Valencia switch
Deschamps completes Valencia switch
Didier Deschamps has been officially presented as a Valencia player after his 2.7m move from Chelsea - complete with 38m buy out clause.

Deschamps, who captained France to victory in the 1998 World Cup and in this year's European championship, has signed a three-year deal.

The deal includes the now traditional Spanish buy out clause, in the case of Deschamps around 38m.

The French midfielder joins last season's Champions League finalists after a mediocre season at Chelsea.

We have not looked at his age. We have looked at his quality
Valencia president Pedro Cortes on Deschamps
Deschamps said: "This is a great team and I have come here to win something. I think I can help the team win the league, which is the most important competition here in Spain as it is in England, France and Italy.

"It was difficult for me in England, after five seasons in a team like Juventus. I think my style adapts better to the Latin game, that's why I opted for Valencia.

"I've not come to Valencia thinking of having a holiday or of retiring," said the 31-year-old Deschamps. "I can have three more years at the top level."

Valencia president Pedro Cortes said at the presentation that he hoped Deschamps would add to his impressive collection of trophies at his new club.

He also dismissed worries about the player's age.

"We haven't looked at the player's age but at his quality," he said. "The only thing I have said to Didier is that he should look forward with enthusiasm to his three years here."
