Dutch league leaders PSV Eindhoven have signed midfielder Andy Van der Meyde until the end of the season.

The former Ajax and Inter Milan player, 30, has been without a club since his release by Everton last year.

Van der Meyde has been given extra incentive with the possibility of a contract for two further seasons.

"I want to be important to PSV," the Dutchman commented. "The chance to return to football with a major club like PSV is excellent."

Van der Meyde begain his career at Ajax, PSV's main rivals, and won two league titles durign his time at the club.

He then moved on to Inter Milan, but after a brief and disappointing spell at the San Siro, moved on to Everton.

Things did not get any better at Goodison Park, where he endured injury and disciplinary problems, which resulted in him being granted a free transfer by the Toffees in 2009.

Van der Meyde now hopes for a fresh start at PSV, who needed to strengthen their squad after losing Danko Lazovic to Zenit St Petersburg.

"It does not matter where I have played previously, it is now that matters," he added.
