Nakata gives Roma ultimatum

AS Roma's Japanese star Hidetoshi Nakata has given his club bosses an ultimatum that he is ready to pack his bags unless he is given a first team place.

Since signing from Perugia last winter, the 1998 Asian Player of the Year has rarely taken to the pitch.

"If I don't play I'm off," he said. "Since I started playing I never thought that I would be a substitute. I work and train to win a place in the team."

The 23-year-old midfielder said that he did not feel inferior to Roma's first choice striker, Italian international Francesco Totti.

"We're different. He has his qualities and I have mine. I'm not better than him, but I'm certainly not worse," said Nakata.

He said that he was ready to consider offers from other clubs, but wanted to stay in Europe because he was used to playing there.
