Craig Short is named boss of Hungarian side Ferencvaros
Short knows Ferencvaros owner McCabe from his Sheffield United days
Former Blackburn and Sheffield United defender Craig Short has been appointed manager of Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
The club is owned by United chairman Kevin McCabe and Short, 41, had been in temporary charge since the dismissal of Bobby Davison in November.
"I believe we can climb the table when the season starts after the winter break," said Short.
"There have been many problems in my time in charge. I'm going to give it my best shot and see where that takes us."
Short played for Scarborough, Notts County, Derby, Everton, Blackburn and Sheffield United - helping the last two earn promotion to the Premier League.
He initially retired at the end of the 2005/06 season, but reconsidered and played two matches the following season before joining Ferencvaros as a coach in 2008.
The club have won a record 28 Hungarian league titles, the last in 2004, and currently lie 11th in the 16-team league table going into the winter break.
"I'm delighted to take permanent charge of a great club steeped in tradition," stated Short.
"We'll now continue planning as we were. I genuinely believe we can get Ferencvaros climbing the table when the seasons starts again after the winter break. We aim to finish in the top five."
