2255: Be sure to join Stevo for the draws tomorrow. You know how he gets if he doesn't get any attention. Many thanks for your company tonight. It won't go down as a famous night for Manchester City, but their name will be in one of those kinder eggs in one of those goldfish bowls tomorrow and that, my friends, is all that counts in the end. Au revoir.

From mouldyisable2 on 606: "Just ONCE I wish they would make my life easy! Been a City fan since I was five. It's torture! But you know something: Midtjylland, now this. Could this just be our year? I'm starting to dream."

2252: Manchester City join PSG, Dynamo Kiev, Hamburg, Shakhtar Donetsk, Udinese, Marseille and Werder Bremen in the quarter-finals. They will find out their opponents tomorrow at 1200 GMT following the Champions League draw.

City keeper Shay Given: "We could have made it easier for ourselves but thankfully we came out on top. It's the luck of the draw with penalties. We need to play better than tonight in the quarter-finals."

2248: Talk about doing it the hard way. Despite Barack Obamartins 'slack of faith, Shay Given saves Manchester City's bacon, saving two penalties in the shootout, both low to his right.

JAKOBSEN SCORES Aalborg 1-0 Man City
EVANS SCORES Aalborg 1-1 Man City
JOHANSSON SCORES Aalborg 2-1 Man City
ELANO SCORES Aalborg 2-2 Man City
AUGUSTINUSSEN SAVED Aalborg 2-2 Man City (good save Given, low to his right)
NOMVETHE SCORES Aalborg 3-3 Man City (cheeky dink!)
DUNNE SCORES Aalborg 3-4 Man City
SHELTON SAVED Aalborg 3-4 Man City

From Barack Obamartins on 606: "Given isn't that good at saving pens, from a Toon fan who should and does know."

2238: With the home crowd behind them - and their opponents surely still ruing their late collapse - I've got to favour Aalborg in the shoot-out, but hey, it's a lottery right?

2237: Shay Given is back now, and he looks a bit more lively than some of his team-mates as his performs a few squat-jumps.

2236: BBC 5 Live report that Shay Given has dashed off down the tunnel. Meanwhile, his team-mates are standing in a circle, arms around each other.

2234: FULL-TIME Aalborg 2-0 Man City agg 2-2 AET

2231: Mark Hughes, his brow furrowed, urges his side on as a pass for Micah Richards goes straight out of play. Couple of minutes left.

From holland21 on 606: "It's gonna happen. Mark Hughes is warming up to take a penalty."

City wish...

From Keith via text on 81111: "Re 2105: Mark Bowen - the man is a prophet!"

2225: Thomas Augustinussen delays his cross a bit too long, allowing Stephen Ireland to slide in and concede the corner. Aalborg still looking the more likely scorers.

2224: Victory for PSG means they join Dynamo Kiev, Hamburg, Shakhtar Donetsk, Udinese, Marseille and Werder Bremen in the quarter-finals. Just one place left...

2222: FULL-TIME Braga 0-1 PSG agg 0-1

2222: Andreas Johansson has a go from distance on the volley - and impressively almost makes the corner flag. The Swede jogs back to the centre circle with a sheepish smile on his face.

2220: City need a spark of inspiration... will it be provided by Elano? The Brazilian replaces Vincent Kompany.

2218: Aalborg make their final change as Caca comes off to be replaced by local boy Daniel Christensen. And we're off again.

Kevin Gallacher on BBC 5 Live: "Aalborg look like they want it more than Man City just now. They are throwing bodies in the way of everything."

2212: The deadlock is finally broken as PSG take the lead with nine minutes remaining, leaving Portuguese side Braga needing two goals to advance.

2211: GOAL Braga 0-1 PSG agg 0-1 (Guillaume Hoarau 81)

2211: Shaun Wright-Phillips picks up the ball and advances towards the halfway line, but, with no one available for the pass, he is forced to check back. City look dead on their feet.

From quiteManners on 606: "Er, thanks for coming Robinho."
Join the debate on 606

2205: Mark Hughes makes a change and it's an interesting one... Robinho comes off after yet another disappointing away game and is replaced by Felipe Caicedo. The Brazilian turns and applauds the visiting fans, but gets a lacklustre response.

2201: Danny the Stat: "(See 2055) Even Shakespeare himself would have balked at that sort of improbable ending in Denmark. Well, late Mancunian defensive capitulations notwithstanding, it is a City man who is the star right now on Player Rater - Shaun Wright-Phillips has a seven-breaking 7.02. First-half villain Kasper Risgaard is now the Aalborg hero with 6.96. It could yet change people. Write the script..."

2159: Extra time is under way.

From TopClassCitizen on 606: "ARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE YOU CITY!!!!!!!!!!! WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Join the debate on 606

2156: Manchester City pay a very high price for sitting back for the final 15 minutes, allowing Aalborg to come roaring back. The home crowd are in full voice as Mark Hughes attempts to pass on some instructions to his demoralised troops.

2154: FULL-TIME Aalborg 2-0 Man City agg 2-2

2152: GOAL Aalborg 2-0 Man City agg 2-2
Extra time here we come. Ched Evans uses his arm to stop the ball as the corner comes over and Stephane Lannoy immediately points to the spot. Clear handball. Michael Jakobsen strokes the penalty high into the net. Mark Hughes fumes on the touchline.

2150: Luton Shelton's header flies over the top. Replays show that the Jamaican striker may have controlled the ball with his arm for his goal.

2146: GOAL Aalborg 1-0 Man City agg 1-2
Six minutes remaining and they'll be nervous ones for City. Luton Shelton stabs home a right-wing cross to give Aalborg hope.

2144: Woodwork! Stephen Ireland manages to cut the ball back from byeline but Robinho smacks a shot onto the crossbar. Eight minutes remaining.

2141: Luton Shelton controls ball into the box beautifully and shrugs off the attentions of Richard Dunne, but Shay Given makes an excellent save low to his left.

2139: Unlucky Aalborg. Nedum Onuoha glances a defensive header wide of the post and it should be a corner for the Danes but the referee reckons that's a goal kick. Aalborg bring on Marcus Tracy for Kasper Risgard - the outgoing player chucking away his gloves in frustration.

2136: Robinho gives the ball away 20 yards from his own goal and it eventually comes to Andreas Johansson but the Swede's shot is deflected wide.

2134: Stephen Ireland back on with 19 minutes remaining.

2132: Caca catches Stephen Ireland from behind, leaving the midfielder rubbing his Achilles. Worrying sight for City as Ireland hobbles off for more treatment.

2131: Crikey, referee Stephane Lannoy seems to be out to (L)annoy the home crowd, preventing Aalborg from taking a quick free-kick for no apparent reason.

2129: Michael Beauchamp gets a well-deserved yellow card for a laughable dive in the box. Well done, ref.

2127: That might spell the end of Harry Kewell's career as a centre half. Hamburg roar back from two goals down to win 3-2 in Istanbul and deny Galatasaray the chance of playing the Uefa Cup final in their home city.

2124: FULL-TIME Galatasaray 2-3 Hamburg agg 3-4

2124: Surely that's a penalty... but no. Javier Garrido dives in to challenge Andreas Johansson, sending the Swede flying. The crowd are squealing for a spot-kick, but nothing given. The ball breaks to Caca and Garrido is on hand again, his arm wrapped around the Brazilian as he goes to shoot, but again no penalty.

2121: Shaun Wright-Phillips suddenly bursts into space down the right but his cross comes off Michael Jakobsen. Disappointing.

From The kid from Fuenlabrada on 606: "Olic with a Dossenaesque lob to finish the tie. Harry Kewell nowhere to be seen."
Join the debate on 606

2119: GOAL Galatasaray 2-3 Hamburg agg 3-4 (Ivica Olic 90)

2117: Caca volleys low just past Shay Given's left-hand post. A warning for City. Wayne Bridge, who was ill before the game, now seems to have picked up a hamstring injury and is replaced by Javier Garrido.

2115: Vincent Kompany goes into the referee's book for a petulant push on Thomas Augustinussen.

2113: Stephen Ireland plays a through-ball for Ched Evans, who blazes the ball miles over the bar. Miles and miles and miles and miles. BBC 5 Live reckon there must have been one of those famous bobbles. I'm not so sure. Still no shots on target in this match.

From Stu, Glasgow, via text on 81111: "Re 2105: Do you reckon Mark Bowen has seen the Galatasaray-Hamburg score?"

2108: Player Rater villain Kasper Risgard (see 2055) tumbles under a challenge from Vincent Kompany as the cross comes over from the left, but that's a very optimistic shout - which the referee ignores.

2106: Anders Due, injured at the end of the first half, doesn't come out after the break. He is replaced by Siyabonga Nomvethe in Aalborg's midfield. And we're off.

2105: Less than 15 minutes remaining in the thriller at Galatasaray. As it stands, Hamburg will go through on away goals.

Man City assistant boss Mark Bowen: "We need a bit more care in forward positions. The final pass hasn't been of the quality we expect. We've reminded the lads things can cave in pretty quickly in Europe if you lose your focus for a moment."

2055: Here he is. Your friend and mine Danny the Stat ... "Thank you Cheesy. Unlike the play "Hamlet", there has not been a great amount of drama in Denmark so far. That's reflected in a set of mediocre scores on Player Rater . That's except for poor Kasper Risgaard of Aalborg, who will be nervously chomping on his fingernails at the news he's scored just 3.00. Poor Kasper. Will anyone out there give him some Player Rater love? Time will tell..."
Aalborg v Man City Player Rater

2051: Well, bless my soul. Forget the Bundesliga bid (see 2042), the Uefa Cup dream is back on! Hamburg's quickfire double puts them ahead on away goals against Galatasaray.

2050: GOAL Galatasaray 2-2 Hamburg agg 3-3 (Paolo Guerrero 60)

2049: HALF-TIME Aalborg 0-0 Manchester City (agg 0-2)

2048: GOAL Galatasaray 2-1 Hamburg agg 3-2 (Paolo Guerrero 57)

From Stevie Irelands Underpants on 606: "Lovely piece of skill from Rob, too selfish to go for goal though. Good to see he is chasing back tonight though!"
Join the debate on 606

2044: Robinho makes a fool of Kasper Bogelund on the left-hand side of the box, tricking his way to the byeline - but there's no one in the middle to support and he lashes a shot into the side netting.

2043: Pablo Zabaleta gives away a free-kick, which is headed back across goal dangerously before Micah Richards stabs it clear.

2042: Another ex-Liverpool player scores for Galatasaray to put them in control against Hamburg. Looks like Martin Jol's side will be left to focus on the Bundesliga, where they are fourth but only four points off the lead. Bundesliga warming up for a thrilling end to the season.

2039: GOAL Galatasaray 2-0 Hamburg agg 3-1 (Milan Baros 49)

From JR-ArsenalFan on 606: "Just found out some information about Harry Kewell. In the first leg against Hamburg, Emre Asik was sent off and Kewell volunteered to cover that position for the rest of the match, doing an immense job apparently! Due to the suspension of Asik, Kewell plays again in the CB role for today's game."

Someone doing my research for me. Love it.

2035: Stephen Ireland and Robinho are caught offside in quick succession. Not the greatest of games, but Manchester City will be delighted with how it's going.

2029: Luton Shelton is a bit lucky to avoid a yellow card after diving in on Shay Given as the keeper prepares to clear. He gets away with a talking to from kindly ref Stephane Lannoy.

2027: Aalborg threaten. Anders Due crosses from the left, but Nedum Onuoha gets in ahead of Luton Shelton to clear behind for a corner.... quickly followed by another corner. City survive.

From Glen from West Yorkshire, via text on 81111: "Dunno about Aalborg. It's all boring at the moment."

See what you've done there. Clever. Very clever.

2021: Touche. Micah Richards' opposite number Kasper Bogelund is on the overlap and plays his cross straight into Shay Given's arms. Rubbish all round.

2020: Shaun Wright-Phillips threads a beautifully weighted pass through for Micah Richards on the right. With four City players waiting for the cross, he can't beat the first defender.

2017: Central defender Harry Kewell puts Galatasaray ahead on the night and on aggregate against Martin Jol's Hamburg. The Uefa Cup final will be played in Istanbul so extra incentive for Galatasaray.

2014: GOAL Galatasaray 1-0 Hamburg agg 2-1 (Harry Kewell pen 42)

2011: As the ball trickles back to keeper Karim Zaza, he slips on the greasy surface. Robinho senses he might be in, but the Moroccan recovers in time.

2009: Robinho wins a tackle in his own half. He does, you know. City's gameplan seems to be to get the ball out to Shaun Wright-Phillips on the right as much as possible - and it's proving effective at the moment. City have started well.

2005: Aalborg apparently has more tattoo parlours than any other city in Denmark. No wonder Craig Bellamy was so keen to make the trip.

2003: Early chance for City. Shaun Wright-Phillips picks out Stephen Ireland just inside the box but his low effort is blocked by... Ched Evans. Oops.

2002: Manchester City get us under way.

1959: A very traditional trumpet fanfare greets the arrival of the two teams. "It's very, very cold," confirms BBC 5 Live commentator John Murray, who also reports that Wayne Bridge was a doubt for the match as he has been ill for the last 24 hours. Brave soldier.

1957: Not sure how many fans City have taken with them to Aalborg but they're making a decent noise inside the Energi Nord Arena. They might not be quite so chirpy if the Danes score first...

From BulgarianManc on 606: "It looks like Harry Kewell is playing centre-back tonight for Galatasaray. Hamburg getting the decisions so far. 0-0 but Hamburg must score to have any chance of going through."

1951: TEAMS Aalborg v Man City
Aalborg: Zaza, Bogelund, Lasse Nielsen, Jakobsen, Beauchamp, Due, Johansson, Augustinussen, Caca, Risgaard, Shelton. Subs: Kenneth Nielsen, Sorensen, Nomvethe, Tracy, Kristensen, Ronnie Nielsen, Dalsgaard.
Man City: Given, Richards, Dunne, Onuoha, Bridge, Wright-Phillips, Zabaleta, Kompany, Ireland, Robinho, Evans. Subs: Hart, Berti, Garrido, Elano, Fernandes, Caicedo, Etuhu.

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes: "We just wanted Ched Evans' energy up there, chasing people down and making life difficult for their back four. Vincent Kompany's return is important. It gives us the defensive solidity in front of the back four which we were maybe lacking at the weekend."

1947: Woe upon woe for poor old Metalist Kharkiv. The goal that sent Dynamo Kiev through at their expense (see 1921) has now been put down as an Andriy Berezovchuk own goal. Salt, wound.

1944: I won't say this again*: the Uefa Cup draw is tomorrow at 1200 GMT, following the Champions League at 1100 GMT. A Mr Stevenson will be taking you through that.
Clubs await Champions League draw

* I will.

1941: TEAM NEWS Aalborg v Man City
Manchester City midfielder Vincent Kompany passes a late fitness test and returns to the side in place of Elano. Robinho, as expected, is fit to play, despite an ankle problem. Striker Ched Evans got the nod to start ahead of Felipe Caicedo. Aalborg midfielder Thomas Enevoldsen is suspended, while striker Jeppe Curth has been ruled out with a foot injury.

From Gary, Edinburgh via text on 81111: "To all proclaiming City for the Uefa Cup, beware Martin Jol's Hamburg."

1935: As Britain bakes (sort of), it's a chilly 2C in Aalborg today. Brrr.

From jonnothecitizen on 606: "2-1 to City with Robinho to prove he can play away from home... With Zenit crashing out now alongside AC Milan and Villa in the last round, the Uefa Cup has to be City's for the taking. Am betting on a City - Werder Bremen final with City to win it 4-1...would make me a millionaire..."

From TwinCitiesTurvey on 606: "Definitely squeaky bum time.... C'mon City."

1927: And to complete a bad day for Russia, CSKA Moscow, who beat Aston Villa in the previous round, are also out. They went down 2-0 at Shakhtar Donetsk, after winning the first leg 1-0.

1923: Holders Zenit St Petersburg have gone out. The Russian side beat Udinese 1-0 in the second leg but lost 2-1 overall.

1921: Crikey. The Uefa Cup is delivering in all sorts of ways already today. Milos Ninkovic's 79th-minute strike put Dynamo Kiev into the quarter-finals. Kiev lost 3-2 to fellow Ukrainians Metalist Kharkiv in the second leg but go through on away goals.

1919: Still, even travel-fearing Manchester City can't mess this up can they? They take a 2-0 lead to Aalborg, having already secured a draw and a win away to Danish sides this season. Easy...

1915: Grrr. Mark Hughes is absolutely furious. Outraged, I tell you. Yet another defeat on the road - this time to Chelsea on Sunday - had the snipers out again, and Sparky has finally snapped. "I do get a little bit tired of answering questions on my future," he raged. Too right, Sparky. You tell 'em.
