Spain celebrate their Euro 2008 triumph
Spain triumphed over Germany in the final of Euro 2008

The French Football Federation (FFF) has submitted an application to host the European Championship in 2016.

France previously hosted the event in 1984, and also staged the World Cup finals in 1998, winning both.

National federations have until 9 March to apply to Uefa, European football's governing body, to host Euro 2016.

Wales and Scotland have held talks about making a joint bid to stage the tournament, which will feature 24 teams instead of the current 16.

Austria and Switzerland staged Euro 2008, won by Spain, with the 2012 tournament set to be jointly hosted by Poland and Ukraine.
