Wednesday's Champions League review

CFR Cluj, who won away to Italian side AS Roma in their first game, held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw.

Two goals by substitute Julio Baptista helped Roma bounce back from that loss to Cluj with a 3-1 win at Bordeaux.

Bordeaux went in front through Yoann Gourcuff but Brazilian defender Henrique was sent off, and Mirko Vucinic and Baptista secured the points.

Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan side were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Werder Bremen despite dominating at the San Siro.

Maicon gave Inter the lead with a close-range goal but Claudio Pizarro equalised in the 62nd minute, tapping in a deep cross that caught Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar out of position.

Inter are level on points with Anorthosis Famagusta at the top of Group B after the Cypriot side continued their impressive start with a 3-1 win over Greece's Panathinaikos.

The hosts took control with two goals in four minutes - an own goal by Panathinaikos defender Jose Sarriegi and a powerful header from Sinisa Dobrasinovic - as they won their first ever Champions League group game.

Messi came off the bench to earn a dramatic late win for Barca
Barcelona needed two late strikes by substitute Lionel Messi to spare their blushes against Shakhtar Donetsk and keep them on top of Group C.

Shakhtar took the lead before half-time when Brazilian winger Ilsinho fired into the roof of the net and they held out until the 87th minute when Messi tapped in after keeper Andriy Pyatov spilt Bojan's cross.

The Argentine then snatched victory in the fourth minute of injury time with a delicate chip.

Sporting moved up to second in the group after a 2-0 win at home to Basle thanks to second-half goals from Argentine playmaker Romagnoli and Derlei.

In-form Spanish side Atletico Madrid defeated Marseille 2-1 to maintain their 100% record.

Sergio Aguero scored his third goal in two Champions League games after latching onto a Maxi Rodriguez through-ball before Mamadou Niang headed the French side level, but Raul Garcia sealed the win when he touched in a free-kick after Aguero had been fouled.

Liverpool also posted their second win, Robbie Keane scoring his first for the club and Steven Gerrard his 100th in the 3-1 win at home to PSV.

Rafael Benitez's side travel to Atletico in three weeks' time.
