Barca seal 23.5m deal for Alves

New Barcelona signing Daniel Alves
Alves won two Uefa Cups during his time at Sevilla

Barcelona have completed the signing of Brazilian defender Daniel Alves from La Liga rivals Sevilla for about 23.5m.

The 25-year-old becomes the world's most expensive right-back after ending his six-year spell with Sevilla.

"Barcelona want a return to the success of two years ago and it's an honour that they are counting on me," he said.

Alves is Barca coach Pep Guardiola's fourth signing of the summer after defenders Gerard Pique and Martin Caceres and midfielder Seydou Keita.

Guardiola believes Alves could form a devastating partnership down the right flank with Barca's Argentine winger Lionel Messi.

"They are the two best players on the right flank and if they play well we'll have the best right side," said Guardiola.

"He's a player that needs space. I hope to get the most out of him and we hope he feels good here."

Guardiola has already sold Giovani dos Santos to Tottenham and Deco to Chelsea since taking charge, while saying Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o can leave the Nou Camp.
