2148: So a tasty semi-final between Barcelona and Manchester United to look forward to, with the first leg at the Nou Camp on 22 or 23 April. Liverpool host Chelsea in the first leg of the other semi. That one doesn't exactly set the pulses racing - but small acorns and all that. Many thanks for your company. Be sure to be back on Saturday for Prem action...

2144: Your Player of the Day is Owen Hargreaves with 7.98. Quite right too. Carlos Tevez and Ji-Sung Park are the other shining lights. Daniele de Rossi's penalty horror-show earns him bottom marks on 4.39.

2142: So Manchester United set a new record for consecutive home wins with 11, overtaking Juventus. They will meet Barcelona for the first time since 1998 when they drew 3-3 in the group stage.

2139: "Not the greatest of matches, but we won, we're through and we rested key players for the Arsenal match on Sunday. That's all that matters."
PBUnited83 on 606

2137: FULL-TIME Barcelona 1-0 Schalke (agg 2-0)
Unconvincing from Barca but they are through to face Manchester United in the semi-finals. The first leg will be at the Nou Camp in a couple of weeks' time.

2135: FULL-TIME Man Utd 1-0 Roma (agg 3-0)
Stroll in the park for United. Things might have been different if Roma had scored that pen. Doubt it though.

2135: Thierry Henry is applauded by the Barca fans as he comes off for Eidur Gudjohnsen - but the former Arsenal striker has been poor tonight, not for the first time this season.

2133: A lovely move from United ends with Park Ji-Sung's delicate chip pushed over the bar by keeper Doni.

2132: "Captain fantastic is back!!!"
In_Fergie_We_Trust on 606

2130: Gary Neville gets a huge cheer for his first touch - but which is also a foul. Brilliant. This is turning into Gary Neville watch.

2128: Gary Neville hasn't touched the ball yet but he nearly gets on the end of an Owen Hargreaves cross before the keeper punches clear.

2124: Here he comes. The United fans raise the biggest cheer of the night as Neville comes on to make his first appearance in over a year. Rio Ferdinand throws him the captain's armband - no hint of emotion from Neville. Anderson is the man to make way.

2122: Gary Neville is waiting to come on at Old Trafford but the ball just doesn't want to go out of play. Never known such anticipation before a substitution.

2117: Here come the changes at last: Wayne Rooney and John O'Shea on for Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick. Rio Ferdinand takes the captain's armband.

2116: Bojan is taken off at the Nou Camp - prompting booing and more hanky-waving. Frank Rijkaard looks a bit sheepish.

2113: GOAL Man Utd 1-0 Roma (agg 3-0)
Carlos Tevez holds off a couple of challenges in midfield before laying the ball off for Owen Hargreaves on the right and the Argentine is on the end of the cross with a diving header. Job done.

2109: Gary Neville's running down the touchline now - and the United fans respond with a warm round of applause. And yes, before you ask, the substitutes warming up is more interesting than the action on the pitch at the moment.

2107: Barcelona skipper Carles Puyol will miss the first leg of the semi-final after he is booked for clattering into Gerald Asamoah.

2103: Well, I'm not sure who's coming on for United. Now Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney are warming up on the touchline. Maybe Fergie's just showing off...

2100: Decent chance for Roma. The ball breaks for Rodrigo Taddei but Wes Brown deflects the shot behind for a corner.

2059: Roma lose Marco Cassetti to a shoulder injury so Max Tonetto will come on to replace him. Looks like Paul Scholes will be on in a bit.

2052: Thierry Henry sidefoots over from 10 yards from Bojan's pull-back. Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer makes yet another save out of the very top drawer to deny Andres Iniesta. Barca have made a decent start to the second half.

2052: Edwin van der Sar looks like a doddery old man there as he spills a long-range shot then sits and watches as Rio Ferdinand clears up the mess. Awful keeping. Ferdinand, by the way, had three stitches on a foot wound at half-time.

2051: Eric Cantona gets a huge ovation from the fans as he takes his seat for the second half at Old Trafford.

2049: Rio Ferdinand comes out for the second half despite apparently struggling at the end of the first half. And we're up and running.

Owen Hargreaves - the man they're calling the new Cristiano Ronaldo - is running away with it on 7.46. Poor old Daniele de Rossi is bringing up the rear on 4.56.

2038: "Re 2025: Baggio was one of the most successful penalty takers in Italian history, converting 86% of his pens. Leave him alone!!"
Gerardo in Sheffield, via text on 81111

2035: Schalke have had a hatful of chances but find themselves behind. Manchester United could have scored 10 - but would have been behind were it not for Daniele de Rossi's awful, awful penalty. Strange game.

2033: HALF-TIME Man Utd 0-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

2033: HALF-TIME Barcelona 1-0 Schalke (agg 2-0)

2032: Carles Puyol almost puts through his own net as he swings at a Kevin Kuranyi cross. If you're a United fan, you won't be too worried by this Barca performance.

2029: GOAL Barcelona 1-0 Schalke (agg 2-0)
Bizarre goal and not really deserved either. Bojan's cross flicks off defender Marcelo Bordon and is headed off the line by Mladen Krstajic - but Yaya Toure is on hand to sidefoot in.

2026: Rio Ferdinand seems to be struggling so John O'Shea is warming up. It's a very open game at Old Trafford - hard to believe it's still 0-0.

2025: "Does Roberto Baggio teach Roma how to take penalties?"
Dave, Edinburgh, via text on 81111

2019: Roma are suddenly threatening and Daniele de Rossi tries a Ronaldo-style backheel towards goal - but it's too weak and United clear.

2019: "That was justice. It was never a penalty."
MU-Blade on 606

Wes Brown sticks out a leg and brings down Mancini. Did he play the ball? I'm not sure you know. It doesn't matter though because Daniele de Rossi's penalty is catastrophically bad. Into row Z. That goal would have been the most 'against the run of play goal' I think I have ever seen.

2015: Penalty to Roma.

2013: A lovely move from Manchester United, beginning with Carlos Tevez passing the ball from the edge of his own box to Ryan Giggs and ending with the Argentine waiting just too long to pass and finding Anderson offside.

2011: As if to sum up the first 25 minutes for Roma, keeper Doni throws the ball straight out of play. Awful.

2009: Owen Hargreaves - who is playing a bit of a Cristiano Ronaldo role tonight if you can believe that - is played through by Ryan Giggs but he's robbed by Juan as he's about to pull the trigger. Hargreaves then crosses for Anderson to fire straight at keeper Doni.

2007: Another golden opportunity missed by Schalke as Kevin Kuranyi volleys wide from about two yards out. Incredible. The first white hanky is already waving at the Nou Camp.

2006: Barcelona allow Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones plenty of time and space and he almost takes advantage - firing a shot narrowly wide. Terrible defending from the Catalan side.

2003: How many chances already? Owen Hargreaves is through on the right and drives the cross for Ryan Giggs, whose volley is saved by Roma keeper Doni.

2000: Roma go close through Mirko Vucinic, but Edwin van der Sar saves - and Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi should level things up at the Nou Camp but heads wide.

1958: Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer pulls off a brilliant stop to deny Barca midfielder Xavi. He's a brilliant stopper that fella.

1955: Who needs Rooney and Ronaldo? Manchester United are absolutely bossing things at Old Trafford. Wes Brown should do better with a free header from Ryan Giggs' corner. Then Owen Hargreaves is clean through from Giggs' pass but can't get his shot over the keeper. Roma are all over the shop.

1954: Halil Altintop sees his scuffed shot palmed away one-handed by Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes as Schalke threaten at the Nou Camp.

1952: Michael Carrick plays in Ji-Sung Park with a lovely through-ball but the midfielder drags his shot wide from a difficult position. A few moments later, Park delivers a great cross from the left but Carlos Tevez plants a free header wide.

1948: Mancini sets Marco Cassetti away down the right with a lovely backheel but it's a terrible cross. Manchester United go up the other end and Owen Hargeaves' cross is desperately hooked clear. Meanwhile, at the Nou Camp, Bojan - who scored the only goal in the first leg - plays an embarrassing air shot in front of goal. A bright start.

1946: Away we go then.

1944: As was the case yesterday, we have a minute's silence at both grounds in memory of Mathieu Sprengers, a member of the Uefa executive committee who died on Sunday.

1941: Ryan Giggs leads a very unfamiliar looking Manchester United team at Old Trafford. Will Roma be encouraged? Or just a bit confused? We're about to find out...

1940: Want some facts about our men in the middle tonight? Tom Henning Ovrebo - at Old Trafford - is a fan of motorcycling and boating and decided to become a referee when he was 14. Interesting. Roberto Rosetti - who's at the Nou Camp - likes playing tennis, reading and watching films. Intriguing...

1935: "Re 1930: I agree with that all managers have to trust their players - he does that and hopefully we will be fine. Remember the Arsenal game is on Sunday and we need to win that one!"
Momar_Ndiaye on 606

1930: Here's Fergie's explanation of his team selection... "Some people might call it a gamble but I've got to judge the whole season. We've got a fantastic bench but I'm hoping and I'm very confident we'll still go through with the team we've got tonight. It's a question of whether you trust your players, and I trust my players."

1926: "Sir Alex isn't taking a gamble. He's doing what he does best... employing tactics which will raise blood pressure amongst fans, raise eyebrows elsewhere and furrow forehead lines everywhere else. Ultimately, after 90 minutes, people will hail his genius."
K-Keyz via text on 81111

1921: Some more chat on the eyebrow-raising Manchester United team news... Mikael Silvestre returns to the team for the first time since September, while Gary Neville - out for more than a year - is on the bench. Paul Scholes, one away from 100 Champions League appearances, is also on the bench along with Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

1915: "I just can't see where Manchester United are going to score from. I thought Ferguson would have started with the two boys Ronaldo and Rooney, got a goal and taken them off at half-time."
BBC pundit Chris Waddle on Radio Five Live

1911: "Fergie is taking a real gamble here!"

1910: TEAM NEWS Barcelona v Schalke
Barcelona make two changes from their disappointing 0-0 at home to Getafe in La Liga on Sunday, with Eric Abidal replacing Silvinho at left-back and Lilian Thuram coming in for the injured Gabriel Milito at centre-back. Schalke welcome back defender Heiko Westermann and striker Kevin Kuranyi, who was rested at the weekend.

1906: TEAM NEWS Man Utd v Roma
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson makes five changes from the team that drew with Middlesbrough. Out go Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra, Paul Scholes and John O'Shea. In come Gerard Pique, Mikael Silvestre, Ji-Sung Park, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves. Rio Ferdinand starts, despite that foot injury he suffered against Boro. Roma are still without Francesco Totti but Juan and Simone Perrotta return to the starting line-up after missing the first leg through injury and suspension respectively.

1904: The stats don't make pretty reading for Schalke either. Barcelona have lost only twice in 34 ties in which they have taken a first-leg lead and they and Manchester United are the only unbeaten teams in the Champions League this season.

1902: But Roma fans look away now... Manchester United have not lost at home in the Champions League for three years. Roma have won once in 10 previous visits to England - and that didn't stop them losing 2-1 on aggregate to Liverpool in 2000/1.

1854: Just been looking for some crumbs of comfort for Roma and it's not easy - although that team news might work, if true. Roma have won their last two away games in the Champions League though, including a win over Real Madrid.

1850: I am hearing that Rio Ferdinand does play for Manchester United - but Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney do not. Only a rumour, mind.

1848: "Re 1845: No I don't think so, both Barca and Manchester United got away wins so it should be easy for them."
Red and White Blood Cells on 606

1845: Hola, ciao, guten tag and, indeed, hello. Tonight cannot possibly be as mind-blowingly exciting as last night. Can it? Can it???
