2200: A good night for Manchester United fans - and for Barcelona. They are both in pole position after winning away from home in the first legs of their Champions League quarter-finals. Thanks for your help and I hope you enjoyed it - please come back tomorrow night when Paul Fletcher (not a made up name) will take you through Arsenal v Liverpool and Fenerbahce v Chelsea. Should be an interesting evening...
2159: A final word on the Manchester United fans at the Stadio Olimpico. They are still inside the ground but have a large police escort waiting for them to when they are allowed to leave and make their way back into the centre of Rome so hopefully there will be no trouble tonight.
2149: "It was a very good performance from all the players, bearing in mind they lost Nemanja Vidic in the first half. When you go to away grounds at this stage of the competition, and you have a Wayne Rooney and a Cristiano Ronaldo who always pose a threat, it's very difficult for the home team to cope with." BBC Sport football pundit Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 Live
2147: Roma to score three at Old Trafford while keeping a clean sheet? Not a chance. Can Roma pull an 'Italian job' like Arsenal did after going down 0-3 at home and winning the second leg 1-5? It's going to be United and Barca in the semis." neova2 on 606
Cristiano Ronaldo earns top marks for his part in Manchester United's impressive win - he is on 8.31 so far. Anderson does not fare quite so well, scoring just 5.58 - maybe that is for his shooting?
2136: Full-time Schalke 04 0-1 Barcelona Barcelona are also in control of their tie after winning the away leg through Bojan Krkic's goal.
2135: Full-time Roma 0-2 Manchester United Job done in the first leg for United. Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney mean they are in command of this tie ahead of next week's second leg.
2132: That would have been the ideal way to round things off for United. Carlos Tevez sends over an inviting cross and Cristiano Ronaldo slams a powerful volley inches over. Very close to being a special goal.
2131: "Chris Bevan is sooo a made up name." thyra7 on 606
2127: "I think United have been fantastic today. Brilliant defensively, and sound offensively as proved by the two goals. It's not over yet, but the glamour Barca-United tie looks set to take place." ManuchoGoncalves on 606
That would be a cracker wouldn't it...I know a couple of United fans who have already booked their plane tickets for Barcelona too. I would never be so optimistic!
2127: Carlos Tevez is on for Wayne Rooney as Manchester United make their last substitution.
2125: "Chris - can you confirm something else for me? Ben Dirs...is that really his real name? Why do all the BBC Sport people in charge of the live text sound like they've got made-up names?" Estesark on 606
I see your point but I can confirm Ben Dirs also exists. Do we all really sound like we have made up names though?
2123: "We have seen some outstanding performances from several Manchester United players tonight. Now they just need to see out the last 10 minutes." BBC Sport football pundit Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 Live
2122: Roma are attacking again but they are not getting any joy from the United defence. If Edwin van der Sar has been immense in goal for Sir Alex Ferguson's men then Rio Ferdinand has not been far behind. The England captain has been a rock in defence.
2119: "I think we can safely say that Italian teams aren't that good anymore. Well done United. see you in the final." Chasneyl on 606
You are right there. Van der Sar has made some crucial saves tonight.
2113: I have not forgotten about tonight's 'other' game at the Veltins Arena by the way. Schalke 04 striker Halil Altintop dinks an effort over keeper Victor Valdes and a diving defender but sees his effort across goal go agonisingly wide.
2112: "Roma needed to score during their good spell and they have paid the price for not doing so." BBC Sport football pundit Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 Live
2111: Not sure where this spell of United pressure has come from but It could very easily have been 3-0 there...Cristiano Ronaldo's low shot is touched on to the outside of the post by Doni. That really would have wrapped things up.
2108: GOAL Roma 0-2 Manchester United Ji-Sung Park heads Wes Brown's cross back across goal and Doni drops the ball at the feet of Wayne Rooney, who bundles the ball over the line.
2106: "Roma could walk sideways through the centre of our defence at the moment." memyselfandmincepies on 606
2105: Roma keep coming forward and United are under the cosh here a bit. Edwin van der Sar makes a great save from Mirko Vucinic following a corner, however, and his side hang on.
2104: "It was actualy 961 goals in his seven youth team years...and I think we are all aware of Bojan Krkic by now anyway! Legend already!" Costy, Banbury via text on 81111
I stand corrected Costy...I pity the poor bloke who had to keep count though...
2103: Another Roma attack sees Ludovic Giuly whip in a low cross that Edwin van der Sar does well to intercept.
2102:INJURY UPDATE Anderson came off because of a hamstring problem and Nemanja Vidic has gone for a scan on the injury he picked up in the first half.
2101: There have been no reports of any trouble between Roma and Manchester United fans tonight. So far, so good there.
2100: United make a change - Owen Hargreaves is coming on for Anderson.
2059: Schalke are putting some pressure on Barcelona at last. Halil Altintop sees a deflected shot go narrowly wide and Christian Pander follows up with a shot, which keeper Victor Valdes fails to gather before Carles Puyol clears.
2059: Philippe Mexes is booked for a foul on Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Carrick heads the resulting free-kick over the bar.
2058: "United need a little period of calm and Edwin van der Sar has just thumped the ball back to Roma. That is not what they need right now." BBC Sport football pundit Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 Live
2055: Another chance goes begging for Roma. Christian Panucci volleys over with the goal gaping and United survive.
2053: Phew! That was close. Max Tonetto finds a gap in the area and goes for goal - his ferocious shot flies wide with Edwin van der Sar stationary.
2052: Daniele De Rossi runs at the United defence on the edge of the area and goes down under a challenge by that renowned tackler Paul Scholes. Nothing doing from the referee though.
2051: More pressure from Roma at the start of the second half and more good defending by Manchester United. John O'Shea shepherds the ball out under pressure from Philippe Mexes.
2049: Meeting people from an internet forum on Friday night and if Ronaldo scores the winner I get free drinks! I will be as welcome as chicken pox!" Terry Silver, London via text on 81111
2046: We are back under way at the Stadio Olimpico and the Veltins Arena.
2043: "Paul Moulden does a fantastic fish and chips as well of course." lostnconfused on 606
2038: A bit more chat for you on Barcelona goalscorer Bojan Krkic. He is the first player born in the 1990s to score in the Champions League - and he apparently scored 889 goals in seven seasons playing for Barcelona's youth teams. Reminds me of Paul Moulden that, if any of you are old enough to remember him...
No surprise who is leading the way in the player rater at the Stadio Olimpico - yes, it is Cristiano Ronaldo on 7.76 so far. Wes Brown is not having such a good night, however. He is down on 5.72.
2026: Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored seven goals in the Champions League this season to make him the top scorer in this season's competition. A few people still think he cannot produce the goods in the big games but that header seems to suggest otherwise - it really was top class.
2024: A golden chance for Roma to level. Mirko Vucinic breaks into the box and holds off Michael Carrick but his shot with the outside of his foot rolls wide.
2023: GOAL Roma 0-1 Manchester United A brilliant header by Cristiano Ronaldo puts United ahead. He runs at speed into the box and soars to meet Paul Scholes' dinked cross with a powerful header into the bottom corner. He injures himself in the process but is quickly back on his feet.
2022: "So why is it Anderson always knocks them over? I've lost count of how many times if has this season? Stats anyone?" Sean, Hemel Hempstead via text on 81111
2020: This is a decent spell of pressure by Roma but so far United are coping well with the high balls that the Italians are sending into their penalty area.
2017: John O'Shea is on for the injured Nemanja Vidic at the Stadio Olimpico. O'Shea will slot straight into United's defence.
2016: More action from the Veltins Arena where Schalke 04 defender Marcelo Bordon's outstretched leg puts a Samuel Eto'o cross just wide with Bojan Krkic lurking if he had missed the ball.
2014: Play has gone on but without Nemanja Vidic who is having further treatment by the corner flag. United substitute Ryan Giggs goes to check whether he can continue - and it appears that John O'Shea will replace him.
2014: A chance for Schalke 04 but Kevin Kuranyi's header from a corner goes straight at Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes. They need to do better than that.
2013: Ouch. Nemanja Vidic is down on the ground and receiving treatment. He fell awkwardly while jumping for a ball with Mirko Vucinic and that looked as though it hurt.
2012: Francesco Totti's understudy Mirko Vucinic lets fly from the edge of the area but his shot flies just over Edwin van der Sar's bar. A good effort.
2010: Not a hint of any crowd trouble at the Stadio Olimpico by the way which can only be a good thing.
2009: This is better from United but Paul Scholes has his shot blocked on the edge of the area. Roma break quickly down the other end, which shows just how dangerous they can be.
2007: "Philippe Mexes is going to give Ronaldo a headache all night Chris. Not because I'm a Gooner but I've heard and seen good things from this guy." 13 league titles to 2 on 606
2004: Cristiano Ronaldo lets fly with a free-kick from all of 40 yards. Optimistic, even for a genius like him. The ball zips wide of the post.
2001: "Not a lot has happened, which from Manchester United's point of view in the away leg is absolutely fine." BBC Sport football pundit Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 Live
2001: Oh dear. United have had a shot on goal - well, I think you can call it that. Anderson blazes his shot over the bar and over the running track at the Stadio Olimpico.
1959: Roma's first real effort on goal sees David Pizarro's corner headed over the bar by Christian Panucci.
1957: A lot of you were talking up Manuel Neuer before the Schalke game...should he have done better there?
1956: GOAL Schalke 04 0-1 Barcelona Thierry Henry's shot is parried by Manuel Neuer and the ball comes back out for Henry who crosses for Bojan Krkic to shoot into the roof of the net from point-blank range.
1954: "Why can't anyone score an early goal? I'm getting bored..." 2o-DeMoN-o8 on 606
1947: United just cannot keep hold of the ball at the moment. Another Roma attack is ended by a foul by Anderson on Mancini but David Pizarro's free-kick is quickly cleared.
1946: Nervy start by United and Rio Ferdinand gives the ball away to Mancini in a dangerous position - not a good idea - before the visitors eventually clear their lines.
1945: We are under way at the Stadio Olimpico and also at the Veltins Arena - where the roof is closed.
1939: "Don't forget the massive game down at the lower end of League Two tonight - Wrexham v Mansfield. Squeaky bum time for all fans down at the bottom including us Dagenham fans." Dash_the_dagger on 606
As a proud (North) Welshman, how can I forget about Wrexham? It is not looking good for the Dragons though. They need a miracle to stay up.
1938: "Can't see another 8-3 between these two but United should go through if Ronaldo and Rooney show up for at least one of the games. Schalke might fancy their chances as Barca aren't playing great at the moment." Cold War Kid on 606
1932: "I wouldn't be too surprised if Schalke manage to pull something out against the big boys. I quite fancy them to have a goalless draw tonight and then go through on away goals in the second leg." Estesark on 606
Nice rhyme but I'm not coming to Devon, I'm afraid. I'm stuck in Shepherds Bush tonight...
1926:FULL TEAM NEWS Schalke 04 v Barcelona Schalke midfielder Ivan Rakitic is out but defender Marcelo Bordon inclusion is a bosst for the German outfit. Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o passes a late fitness test and he will be partnered by Thierry Henry up front. Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Deco are out with injuries meaning young attacker Krkic Bojan plays.
1922: "Good choice Sir Alex Feguson to play Ji-Sung Park over Ryan Giggs. Park is stronger in the tackle and has a better work-rate which is needed for a big Champions League game." anonymous_via_text on 606
1919:FULL TEAM NEWS Roma v Man Utd Manchester United are able to recall goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar after he recovered from the groin strain that kept him out of the win against Aston Villa. Tomasz Kuszczak drops down to the bench. Ji-Sung Park comes into midfield for Ryan Giggs, while Anderson replaces Carlos Tevez. Roma, as expected, are without captain Francesco Totti, who is sidelined with a thigh injury.

1903 BST: Evening all.
The clocks have gone forward, signalling not only that summer will be soon upon us but also that we are entering that crucial stage of the season christened 'Squeaky Bum Time' by Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
His boys are in action in Italy tonight, in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Roma, while the night's other tie sees underdogs Schalke 04 take on an out of sorts Barcelona.
Anything could happen - and you will find out here first when it does.
