2234: Another fun-packed night in the Champions League. Chelsea ease through to join Manchester United and Arsenal in the quarters while Porto join fellow former champions Real Madrid in concentrating on the league. Liverpool, back up to fourth in the Premier League after tonight's win, take a 2-0 lead to Inter Milan on Tuesday ahead of the quarter-final draw on Friday 14 March. Thanks for all your chat once again. Don't forget the cricket - your Dirsy needs you.

2230: Manuel Neuer is the Schalke hero. The keeper, who made three fabulous saves during the game, comes up trumps again in the shoot-out, saving first from Bruno Alves and then pulling off an amazing stop to deny Lisandro Lopez.

GOAL Porto 0-1 Schalke (Rafinha scores)
GOAL Porto 1-1 Schalke (Lucho Gonzalez scores)
GOAL Porto 1-2 Schalke (Ivan Rakitic scores)
MISS Porto 1-2 Schalke (Manuel Neuer saves from Bruno Alves)
GOAL Porto 1-3 Schalke (Halil Altintop scores)
MISS Porto 1-3 Schalke (Manuel Neuer saves from Lisandro Lopez)
GOAL Porto 1-4 Schalke (Jermaine Jones scores)

2222: As the players prepare for the shoot-out, the MC at the stadium sticks on the Porto anthem to inspire the troops. It's a bit old-school - all brass band and shouty words - but the home fans seem to like it.

2220: Porto keeper Helton is getting some inspirational words from one of the coaching staff. Helton, of course, who might have been sent off earlier (see 2106).

2216: Penalties it is. Hold on to your hats. Should you be wearing a hat.

2213: A couple of minutes left at the Dragao. Penalties looming...

2208: Now listen, we're all breaking into a cold sweat at the prospect of tonight's live football coming to an end, right? But never fear, there's a nice little game of cricket going on between England and New Zealand. And the best thing is the brilliant Ben Dirs is your guide... I feel better now.

2204: Porto go close again as Marek Cech dinks a cheeky shot just over the bar. Schalke nearly make Porto pay for missing these chances but Gerald Asamoah shoots over.

2159: No question that Player of the Day (from the games featuring British sides) is Liverpool's hat-trick man Fernando Torres on 9.14. Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack is close behind on 8.37. West Ham defender Lucas Neill brings up the rear in spectacular fashion on a miserable 3.62. Still time for you to have a click though.

2158: Half time in extra time at the Dragao. You wouldn't guess Porto were down to 10 men. They're doing most of the attacking - but they may live to regret that Quaresma chance.

2153: Manuel Neuer is having an incredible evening. The Schalke keeper makes his third great save as Ricardo Quaresma breaks clear. Quaresma probably delays his shot too long but Neuer still does well to stick a leg out and divert his shot over.

2150: FULL-TIME Liverpool 4-0 West Ham
The final whistle goes at Anfield and Steven Gerrard picks up the ball to give to Fernando Torres after the hat-trick man was subbed earlier. Torres fires Liverpool back into fourth, with Everton down to fifth. Newcastle next for the Reds followed by the second leg against Inter Milan on Tuesday.

2149: "Babe has finished now (see 2041), so I'm settling down to watch extra time with a nice glass of red."
Butch, Didcot, via text on 81111

2142: Extra time is under way at the Dragao. With Porto down to 10 men, I suppose you might favour Schalke - but the Portuguese side have got their tails up after coming back from the dead.

2139: GOAL Liverpool 4-0 West Ham
West Ham lose the ball in midfield to Steven Gerrard, who charges forward and blasts an unstoppable drive into the top corner. The Hammers are on the end of a four-goal drubbing for the second game in a row.

2137: GOAL Liverpool 3-0 West Ham
Fernando Torres scores his third for Liverpool, collecting a header from John Arne Riise and skipping past Lucas Neill before slipping the ball beyond Robert Green.

2137: FULL-TIME FC Porto 1-0 Schalke 04 (agg 1-1)
Extra time it is but not before Ricardo Quaresma sees an audacious shot hit the side netting with the last kick of the game.

2135: FULL-TIME Real Madrid 1-2 Roma (agg 2-4)
That's it. The Spanish champions go out after a dramatic game at the Bernabeu. Real go out at this stage for the fourth successive year as Roma reach the last eight for the second year in a row.

2133: FULL-TIME Chelsea 3-0 Olympiakos (agg 3-0)
Easy for Chelsea, who outclassed Olympiakos. Goals from Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack and Salomon Kalou.

2132: GOAL Real Madrid 1-2 Roma (agg 2-4)
Mirko Vucinic's close-range header wraps it up for Roma and Real Madrid are heading out.

2131: Into added time at the Bernabeu and Stamford Bridge.

2128: GOAL Porto 1-0 Schalke (agg 1-1)
What a goal. What a flippin goal. Lisandro Lopez gets the ball with his back to goal, turns in a flash and arrows a stunning shot into the top corner. The 10 men are level and extra time beckons. Honestly, what a goal.

2124: RED CARD Porto
Fucile gets a straight red from Howard Webb for a sliding challenge on Halil Altintop. Seems a bit harsh - but the foot was high.

2123: Signs of life from Olympiakos at last as Fernando Belluschi's shot cannons back off the bar. And at Anfield, Fernando Torres finds the woodwork with a header as he looks for his hat-trick.

2122: It's not a bad finish at the Dragao either as Porto look to make the most of that earlier let-off when referee Howard Webb failed to spot their keeper handling outside the area.

2120: It's a blockbuster game at the Bernabeu now, with Real piling forward in search of the one goal that would send this tie into extra time.

2117: GOAL Liverpool 2-0 West Ham
Dirk Kuyt twists and turns before delivering the cross from the left and Fernando Torres takes advantage of a static West Ham defence to plant his header in the corner. The Reds look to be heading back to fourth.

2115: GOAL Real Madrid 1-1 Roma (agg 2-3)
Robinho feeds Raul - who looks extremely offside to be fair - but the Real captain makes no mistake with a low finish from just inside the box. Looks like a grandstand finish on the way...

2113: GOAL Real Madrid 0-1 Roma (agg 1-3)
The Real defenders are like statues as Max Tonetto's cross comes in and is headed home by Rodrigo Taddei.

2112: Steven Gerrard plays in Ryan Babel with a well-disguised pass but the winger's shot is well saved by Rob Green.

2111: RED CARD Real Madrid
Pepe is off after picking up his second booking for a barge just outside the box, right on the byeline. That has dealt Real's hopes a huge blow.

2110: You can tell Chelsea are cruising because Claude Makelele abandons his defensive midfield position and shows Brazilian-style skills on the edge of the box to sidestep the challenge and let fly with a low shot - just too close to the keeper. The Frenchman has a little laugh about it.

2106: Controversy at the Dragao as Porto keeper Helton has a rush of the blood to the head and races to the edge of the area. He saves with his hands. The ref - England's Howard Webb by the way - rules he's inside the box but replays show he's just outside.

2103: Porto's Tarik Sektioui is substituted, which is probably just as well. He still looks shellshocked after that miracle save by the Schalke keeper. He sits on the bench, shaking his head.

2103: The game at Anfield is under way again.

2059: Real Madrid are pressing forward with increasing desperation at the Bernabeu. Mahamadou Diarra tries one from long range but Doni tips it over.

2057: Heads in hands time for Porto fans. Ricardo Quaresma dinks the free-kick over instead of blasting it and it's headed across goal for Tarik Sektiuoi. He looks sure to score but keeper Manuel Neuer scrambles across goal to claw the ball away. Stunning save.

2054: Olympiakos are having a nightmare at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are slicing through them at will and Frank Lampard is unlucky to see his shot drift wide.

2052: "Re 2041: Just give her a bacon sandwich, Butch, and explain where it comes from. You'll be watching the footie in no time."
Worzel, Ashby, via text on 81111

2050: Fernando Torres is not surprisingly top of the Player Rater pops after the first half at Anfield. He's on 8.72, while West Ham skipper Lucas Neill, who snubbed Liverpool for the Hammers, is bringing up the rear with 3.32.

2049: Julio Baptista sends in a great free-kick for Real Madrid, but it rebounds off the top of the crossbar.

2048: GOAL Chelsea 3-0 Olympiakos (agg 3-0)
That didn't take long did it? Olympiakos fail to clear a corner from Frank Lampard, Ricardo Carvalho gets a touch and the ball eventually ends up with Salomon Kalou who has time to control before prodding home. Chelsea home and dry surely.

2047: All three Champions League games are back under way in the second half.

2046: HALF-TIME Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
Fernando Torres' goal puts Liverpool ahead. They'll leapfrog Everton into fourth if they can hold on for the three points.

2041: "Just think yourself lucky you're watching the cream of Europe. My five-year-old has insisted we watch 'Babe: Pig in the City' for the fifth time this week."
Butch, Didcot, via text on 81111
Porto v Schalke suddenly seems a whole lot better

2037: Ryan Babel's cross is turned goalwards by Steven Gerrard but West Ham keeper Rob Green is down quickly to push it behind for the corner. From the corner, Lucas Neill makes a complete mess of his clearing header, mistiming his jump so the ball eventually bounces off his shoulder. He looks a bit sheepish.

2034: Michael Ballack is the star of the first-half at Stamford Bridge with 8.16 on BBC Sport's interactive Player Rater.

2032: HALF-TIME FC Porto 0-0 Schalke (agg 0-1)
A bit of a drab affair at the Dragao but Schalke won't mind. They'll go through if it stays like this.

2031: HALF-TIME Real Madrid 0-0 Roma (agg 1-2)
Frustration for Real Madrid. As it stands the Spanish league champions are going out.

2031: HALF-TIME Chelsea 2-0 Olympiakos (agg 2-0)
Goals from midfielders Michael Ballack and Frank Lampard put Chelsea in the box seat.

2030: I'm beginning to get all misty-eyed as I remember last night's explosive action. These games just haven't joined the party... yet.

2029: Liverpool go close as Martin Skrtel runs to the near post and heads Steven Gerrard's corner just over the bar.

2025: West Ham have come back into the match at Anfield and it's turned into a bit of a scrappy affair.

2023: "Do you reckon someone should take Cuducini a cup of tea or something? He's gonna be standing still for some time I think..."
laughingbluegirl on 606

2019: "Something tells me the 'Ballack and Lampard' show is a slightly better selling one than the 'Mullins and Noble show' at Anfield."
Alex, Rusthall, via text on 81111

2014: It may be good news for Chelsea but let's spare a thought for Jimthetrain's colleague (see 1940). Looks like she'll have a lot of spare time on her hands come tomorrow.

2013: What's Pepe Reina up to in the Liverpool goal? Luis Boa Morte skips past the stranded keeper and knocks the ball goalwards from a tight angle but Alvaro Arbeloa saves the keeper's blushes with a clearance.

2009: GOAL Chelsea 2-0 Olympiakos (agg 2-0)
Michael Ballack's shot is half-saved by Olympiakos keeper Antonis Nikopolidis but Frank Lampard is on hand to knock in the rebound from about two yards. It's the Ballack and Lampard show.

2007: GOAL Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
Brilliant. Dirk Kuyt crosses from the right and Fernando Torres nips in ahead of Anton Ferdinand to fire home a first-time shot.

2006: Fernando Torres heads wide from six yards after Dirk Kuyt heads John Arne Riise's left-wing cross back across goal.

2004: Strong start from Liverpool against West Ham. Apparently, 'Help' by the Beatles was an number one in the hit parade the last time the Hammers won at Anfield. I'll leave the gags to you though.

2002: Real Madrid striker Julio Baptista's deflected free-kick is pushed away by Roma goalkeeper Doni. At the other end, Alberto Aquilani sees his brilliant drive come back off the bar. From the rebound, his low shot is somehow saved by Iker Casillas. That is what you call end to end stuff.

2000: Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has a quick look at his watch - not sure why - and we're under way nice and prompt at Anfield.

1959: "1-0 is still not safe for Chelsea... Just have to score another to ease the nerves."
JT_BlueForever on 606

1957: Two golden chances for Porto to take the lead in the second leg against Schalke. Keeper Manuel Neuer makes two brilliant saves though from Lisandro Lopez and Tarik Sektioui.

1955: A one-word summary of the opening 10 minutes at the Bernabeu? Cagey...

1953: "That's the second time in two games that Lampard has provided the assist for a Ballack goal. Who said they couldn't play together?"
kasia_smith on 606

1950: GOAL Chelsea 1-0 Olympiakos (1-0)
That one does count. Michael Ballack heads in Frank Lampard's cross. Simple really.

1947: Frank Lampard takes a quick free-kick to Didier Drogba, who slips the ball through for Joe Cole. Cole hits the post - but he's flagged offside anyway. Encouraging for the Blues though.

1945: The three Champions League games are up and running.

1940: "I've got to decide if we should keep or fire a member of staff tomorrow. I can't decide, so if Chelsea win she's out. If they lose she can stay."
Jimthetrain, on the Stansted Express currently passing thru Tottenham, via text on 81111

1938: At the Dragao, where Porto host Schalke, the crowd are holding up what look like pieces of foil. Anyone got an explanation?

1933: Chelsea will make it 60 home games unbeaten if they avoid defeat against Olympiakos tonight. However, the Greek side have enjoyed their European travels this season - winning two of their group games, against Werder Bremen and Lazio.

1926: As well as Chelsea v Olympiakos, we've got a couple of other tasty-looking Champions League ties tonight. Real Madrid must overturn a 2-1 deficit against Roma if they are to avoid going out at this stage for the fourth successive year. And Porto meet Schalke - the German side looking for some rare cheer after a terrible run in the league.

1919: FULL TEAM NEWS Chelsea v Olympiakos
Chelsea have Carlo Cudicini in goal after Petr Cech picked up an injury in training while Avram Grant has plumped for Didier Drogba up front, with Nicolas Anelka on the bench along with Michael Essien. Olympiakos are without Lomana LuaLua, who dislocated his shoulder at the weekend, while Luciano Galletti is not fit to return.

1916: Inevitably, someone has texted in to ask why Liverpool are not playing the second leg of their Champions League tie against Inter Milan tonight. It's because the Italian police didn't fancy two big games at the San Siro on successive nights. The match takes place on Tuesday instead. Let's hear no more about it.

1907: TEAM NEWS Liverpool v West Ham
Just a pesky rumour about Fernando Torres. The striker does start for Liverpool. John Arne Riise and Alvaro Arbeloa are in for Sami Hyypia and Fabio Aurelio so Jamie Carragher moves into the middle. West Ham bring in Nolberto Solano for the injured Julien Faubert.

1900: "As a United fan, I'd be rooting for Chelsea and Liverpool in the Champions League but since Liverpool's tie is a league game... C'MON HAMMERS!"
Thomasbirty on 606

Tricky business being a football supporter...

1857: According to the good people of 606, rumour has it that Fernando Torres may miss out for Liverpool tonight because he's suffering from a stomach bug. Confirmation as soon as we have it...

1853: TEAM NEWS Chelsea
Here's the Chelsea team to face Olympiakos at Stamford Bridge: Cudicini, Ferreira, Terry, Carvalho, A Cole, Makelele, Ballack, Lampard, J Cole, Kalou, Drogba

1850: Manchester United fan cheese666 (good name) poses an interesting question on 606. Should you support all English clubs in the Champions League? Or only your own and the opposition of your English rivals? And of course the answer is: as long as football is the eventual winner, it really doesn't matter.

1845: Hello. No time for a longer greeting than that, for we have some bombshell team news: our colleagues at BBC 5 Live reckon Petr Cech will not be in goal for Chelsea against Olympiakos. The keeper picked up a thigh injury in training. Well I say bombshell... they've got a fairly able deputy in Carlo Cudicini so I'm downgrading that news to 'interesting'.
