2158: And here endeth the goalfest. Let's hope this weekend's Premier League action - including Grand Slam Sunday - can live up to the standards set tonight. Don't forget to give good old Ray Stubbs a call on BBC Radio 5 Live's 606. He's on 0500 909 693 (text 85058). Night night.

2153: Man of the day is Arsenal striker Robin van Persie who has a rating of 8.19 on BBC Sport's interactive Player Rater. Crikey. Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney runs him close on 7.86.

2146: The draw for the last 16 takes place on Friday 21 December. First-placed teams face second-placed teams and you can't face a team from your own country or one from the group you played in. So Arsenal, Liverpool and Celtic could play Barcelona, Real Madrid or AC Milan for example. The ties are on 19 and 20 February.

2143: Here's how the last-16 line-up looks in the Champions League: FC Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Barcelona, Man Utd, Inter Milan and Sevilla go through as group winners. Liverpool, Schalke 04, Olympiakos, Celtic, Lyon, Roma, Fenerbahce and Arsenal are the other qualifiers.

2141: FULL-TIME West Ham 1-2 Everton
Yakubu's late, late goal earns Everton a semi-final spot in the Carling Cup.

2139: We're into added time at Upton Park where Everton are heading for the Carling Cup semi-finals.

2135: GOAL West Ham 1-2 Everton
A defensive howler from West Ham as Danny Gabbidon heads the ball past his own keeper allowing Yakubu to put Everton ahead.

2135: FULL-TIME Arsenal 2-1 Steaua Bucharest
Arsenal are victorious but it doesn't matter because Sevilla's win means they will finish second in the group.

2134: GOAL Fenerbahce 3-1 CSKA Moscow
Ugur Boral wraps it up for Fenerbahce - who will qualify for the last 16.

2134: FULL-TIME Rangers 0-3 Lyon
Rangers will go into the Uefa Cup after being outclassed by Lyon.

2133: FULL-TIME Roma 1-1 Man Utd
Manchester United already knew they would finish top of their group but they miss the chance to make it six wins from six.

2132: RED CARD Rangers
Jean-Claude Darcheville's miserable cameo for Rangers comes to an early end as he rashly kicks out at his Lyon opponent.

2131: GOAL Sporting 3-0 Dynamo Kiev
Da Silva Liedson seals a comfortable win for Sporting.

2131: GOAL Slavia Prague 0-3 Sevilla
Daniel Alves wraps it up Sevilla and they will finish top of Group H ahead of Arsenal.

2129: GOAL Rangers 0-3 Lyon
Classy goal from a classy side. Karim Benzema charges through on goal and finishes beautifully into the corner from 25 yards.

2126: GOAL Rangers 0-2 Lyon
Rangers bring on Kris Boyd but within a few seconds, Lyon double their lead. A free-kick is floated from the halfway line, the Rangers defence fail to clear, leaving Karim Benzema to run on and stick the ball through Allan McGregor's legs. Heartbreak for Rangers, but they have been second-best tonight.

2125: What news at Upton Park? Lots of endeavour, not many chances. About 10 minutes to go before we head into extra time then possibly penalties.

2119: What drama at Ibrox! Karim Benzema races through after a slip by the Rangers defence. He rounds the keeper but his effort is cleared off the line by Steven Whittaker and Allan McGregor recovers to smother the follow-up. Rangers go straight up the other end and Jean-Claude Darcheville contrives to blast the ball onto the top of the crossbar from about a yard out. Incredible miss.

2117: Just in case you're interested, that was five goals in two minutes. Sweet. What you won't know is my computer crashed midway through that goal rush. I handled it with my usual calm and poise - along with a lot of swearing.

2112: GOAL Slavia Prague 0-2 Sevilla
Two goals in a minute for Sevilla and suddenly everything looks rosy for the Anadalucians. Frederic Kanoute gets the second.

2111: GOAL Roma 1-1 Man Utd
Mancini, who has been booed by some of his own fans, gets the Italian side back on level terms with a neat side-step and curled shot into the corner from 15 yards.

2110: GOAL Slavia Prague 0-1 Sevilla
Clemente Luis Fabiano's goal could be vital for Sevilla because if they win, they will finish ahead of Arsenal in Group H.

2110: GOAL Arsenal 2-1 Steaua Bucharest
Dorel Zaharia pulls one back for the visitors with a looping header.

2110: GOAL Sporting 2-0 Dynamo Kiev
Pontus Farnerud doubles Sporting's lead.

2108: GOAL Barcelona 3-1 Stuttgart
Having gone behind early on, Barcelona are in control after Ronaldinho finishes from Silvinho's cross.

2106: GOAL PSV 0-1 Inter Milan
Julio Cruz's goal for Group G winners Inter means Fenerbahce can lose to CSKA Moscow and still qualify in second. As it happens, they're 2-1 up.

2103: "Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar was superb in the first half, covering every blade of grass. A permanent move better be sorted out."
Ally, via text on 81111

2100: GOAL Barcelona 2-1 Stuttgart
Samuel Eto'o picks up a pass from Xavi and finishes from 10 yards out.

2058: Juninho's stunning free-kick pings off the bar and into the Rangers fans behind. Rangers keeper Allan McGregor was nowhere to be seen.

2054: A Manchester United corner is headed on by Gerard Pique but Chris Eagles clears off the line instead of finishing into the empty net. Did he think he was at the other end?

2050: So close for Rangers. Lyon keeper Remy Vercoutre swipes at Alan Hutton's cross but only succeeds in directing to goal but a Lyon defender clears it off the line and Steven Whittaker fires wide from 12 yards.

2049: Sydney Govou clatters into Alan Hutton and gets a yellow card. The Frenchman appears to have hurt his arm in the process and is off for treatment.

2046: Away we go in the second-half. Let's see if I can get through this 45 without gaffes. Probably not. Rangers make their first change and Steven Naismith is on for Daniel Cousin. Lee McCulloch is now the lone front man.

2040: "Oh dear it look like it will be a long night for the Gers. Lyon's passing has been simply out of this world."
Robert, Glasgow, via text on 81111

2036: HALF-TIME West Ham 1-1 Everton
It's a closely-fought contest at Upton Park. Leon Osman cancels out Carlton Cole's opener for West Ham in the first of the Carling Cup quarter-finals.

2032: GOAL Fenerbahce 2-1 CSKA Moscow
That could be a vital goal for Ugur Boral on the stroke of half-time. It means Fenerbahce are in pole position to qualify from Group G behind Inter Milan.

2031: HALF-TIME Rangers 0-1 Lyon
Rangers might consider themselves slight fortunate not to have conceded more than Sydney Govou's goal. But with only a draw needed, Walter Smith's side are still in it.

2030: HALF-TIME Roma 0-1 Man Utd
United lead thanks to Gerard Pique's header at the Stadio Olimpico.

2030: HALF-TIME Arsenal 2-0 Steaua Bucharest
Goals from Abou Diaby and Nicklas Bendtner put Arsenal in control at the Emirates Stadium. With Sevilla drawing, Arsenal will top Group H.

2028: GOAL West Ham 1-1 Everton
Steven Pienaar provides the pass and Leon Osman's deflected shot levels the scores at Upton Park. That came after a decent spell of Everton pressure.

2026: GOAL Arsenal 2-0 Steaua Bucharest
A trademark Arsenal move. Denilson passes to Robin van Persie who provides a perfectly-weighted pass for Nicklas Bendtner, who rides a challenge before finishing low into the corner. As it stands, Arsenal win Group H.

2022: How Roma do not level is anyone's guess. Francesco Totti waves a glaring chance to shoot eight yards out and seems to be fouled as he goes down, before Mancini clips a shot on to the bar and then Mauro Esposito heads over - but it looked like he was shoved in the back. Extraordinary.

2022: GOAL Barcelona 1-1 Stuttgart
Giovani dos Santos equalises for Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

2020: GOAL Sporting 1-0 Dynamo Kiev
Correa Anderson Polga's penalty gives the Portuguese side the lead in the other game in Group F.

2019: GOALS Fenerbahce 1-1 CSKA Moscow
It's all going off in Istanbul. Luis Edu Dracena's own goal gives the visitors the lead before De Souza Alex equalises within a minute.

2018: GOAL Roma 0-1 Man Utd
Nani's corner is headed home by an unmarked Gerard Pique - his second goal in two Champions League matches - and United are on track for six out of six.

Edison Mendez gets his marching orders for a professional foul.

2014: Rangers look like they will be making a change but it may not be Papac coming off. If it's a tactical change, I'm not surprised. Rangers are in danger of being torn apart.

2010: Sasa Papac is down injured for Rangers and the stretcher is on.

2005: Lyon's slick counter-attacks are causing Rangers all sorts of problems and I have to say I fear for Walter Smith's boys at the moment.

2000: GOAL West Ham 1-0 Everton
Carlton Cole beats Tim Howard to a long ball from Lucas Neill, goes round the keeper and finishes into the empty net.

2000: GOAL Rangers 0-1 Lyon
Allan McGregor parries Karim Benzema's effort straight into the path of Sidney Govou, who smashes home. That's a disastrous start for Rangers.

1958: "Diaby was a promising player before his leg break. He looks back in fine fettle and form."
ElSquirrel on 606

1954: Juninho has a free-kick for Lyon but Allan McGregor pushes his effort round the bottom of the post. From the corner, Carlos Cuellar almost scores an own goal when a clearance hits him and canons towards goal but Rangers survive.

1953: GOAL Arsenal 1-0 Steaua Bucharest
Bacary Sagna swings in the cross from the right and Abou Diaby nips in ahead of a ponderous defender and shoots high into the net.

1949: GOAL Barcelona 0-1 Stuttgart
Antonio Da Silva's 22-yard free-kick bounces off the underside of the bar and goes in off Barcelona keeper Albert Jorquera.

1948: Robin van Persie slides a lovely ball through for Theo Walcott but the striker fires narrowly wide. And Lyon go close at Ibrox after a rare mistake by Alan Hutton.

1945: And we are go.

1942: The Rangers fans hold up coloured cards spelling out the words "Follow, follow" as the teams head out onto the pitch at Ibrox. The atmosphere is electric in Glasgow.

1941: "Rooney's similar qualities (see 1926) are obvious. Bruce's good looks, Robson's ability to steer clear of injury and Keane's calm temperament."
Matt via text on 81111

1938: Apologies if I missed it, but I don't think anyone managed to name the four teams to have won all six Champions League group games. They are: Barcelona, Spartak Moscow, Paris St Germain and AC Milan.

1936: "We'll try to impose ourselves on the game, get Lyon on the back foot and hopefully the atmosphere at Ibrox will help us. "
Rangers boss Walter Smith

1933: Manchester United's group is already settled but Fergie's side can become only the fifth team to win all six group games if they triumph in Roma tonight. You've got a couple of minutes to name the other four.

1930: "Why is Whittaker in our starting line-up! He's utter rubbish."
Super_Ally_Super_Ally! on 606

1926: Wayne Rooney captains Manchester United for the second time in his career, with Fergie saying the striker has similar qualities to Steve Bruce, Bryan Robson and Roy Keane. Thoughts?

1924: Here's the deal: Rangers need a point at home to Lyon to become the sixth British team into the last 16. Arsenal need to beat Steaua Bucharest and hope Sevilla fail to win at Sparta Prague if they are to finish top of Group H. In Group G, Fenerbahce and PSV are vying to join Inter Milan in the next round.

1920: TEAM NEWS West Ham v Everton
West Ham recall Freddie Ljungberg in place of the cup-tied Nolberto Solano, while Dean Ashton starts in place of injured Matthew Etherington. Everton play the side that finished the 3-0 win against Fulham, with Phil Jagielka continuing to deputise for Leighton Baines, who is out for six weeks with a hamstring injury.

1916: "Manchester United's team looks interesting, most of them played in the Carling Cup disaster against wonderful Coventry. Would like to see how they've improved. Especially Danny Simpson who looks like a good loan signing for us."
doyles_left_foot on 606

1912: "Mark my words, Walcott will score tonight."
dangermouse852 on 606

1908: So the news is that three Manchester United fans have been stabbed in Rome. They are not thought to be seriously injured and Manchester-based police have confirmed the violence is not anywhere close to the levels which marred the last meeting between the two teams in April. Still, not great news to start the evening.

1902: TEAM NEWS Roma v Man Utd
Man Utd team: Kuszczak, Simpson, Pique, Evans, O'Shea, Eagles, Carrick, Fletcher, Nani, Saha, Rooney

1900: TEAM NEWS Arsenal v Steaua Bucharest
Arsenal team: Lehmann, Sagna, Senderos, Gallas, Traore, Van Persie, Diaby, Denilson, Song, Bendtner, Walcott

1857: TEAM NEWS Rangers v Lyon
Rangers team: McGregor, Hutton, Cuellar, Weir, Papac, Whittaker, Ferguson, Hemdani, Thomson, McCulloch, Cousin

1852: It's the work party tonight, but Cheese will not be going to the ball. Instead, I'm looking forward to a bumper evening of Champions League 'n' Carling Cup action. Cheers!
