2140: Don't forget you still have time to rate the players. Roma keeper Doni currently has a pitiful 3.59 - some sort of Player Rater record I would imagine.

"I can't think of a better European evening at Old Trafford. The fans were absolutely brilliant right from the off and that was matched by the players."
    BBC Five Live's Alan Green

    2137: FULL-TIME Man Utd 7-1 Roma (agg 8-3)
United sneak past Roma and into the semi-finals where they'll play AC Milan or Bayern Munich. A truly remarkable performance from Sir Alex Ferguson's team.

    2135: FULL-TIME Valencia 1-2 Chelsea (agg 2-3)
I say again: incredible. Chelsea are rewarded for being the more positive side in the second half with a last-gasp victory - Michael Essien the unlikely goalscoring hero. Jose Mourinho's side almost certainly play Liverpool in the semi-finals.

    2132: GOAL Valencia 1-2 Chelsea agg 2-3
Incredible. Michael Essien squeezes a shot in at Santiago Canizares' near post. The Valencia keeper has made two sensational saves tonight but he might have done better there. That'll be the last-minute drama I was on about then.

2131: A minute to go at the Mestalla. We're heading to extra time unless there's some last-minute drama.

2130: Alan Smith finally hits eight on the Player Rater. Well done everyone. Now, what about Kieran Richardson... just kidding.

"That was reminiscent of Gordon Banks' save against Pele at the 1970 World Cup"
    BBC Five Live's Nigel Adderley

2126: Valencia keeper Santiago Canizares produces a miracle save, palming away Michael Ballack's header. Sensational.

2124: GOAL Man Utd 7-1 Roma (agg 8-3)
That's 7 (seven). Patrice Evra shoots home from the edge of the area - only his second goal for United.

2122: You have delivered. Michael Carrick now has over eight on the Player Rater. But what about Alan Smith? A goal and a decent all-round display on his first Champions League start in 15 months - that's worth more than a measly 7.95 isn't it?

2121: Miguel Angel Angulo shoots narrowly over as Valencia up the pace at the Mestalla. Petr Cech is not happy with his defence.

"The home fans are not happy. You can sense the tension all around the stadium."
BBC Five Live's Nigel Adderley in Valencia

2115: Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney are all polling more than eight on the Player Rater. Surely two-goal Michael Carrick should join them?

2112: GOAL Man Utd 6-1 Roma (agg 7-3)
Here comes the fightback. Daniele De Rossi pings in a lovely volley from Francesco Totti's cross. The United fans don't care though - they applaud their Roma counterparts.

2111: Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Carrick are both on hat-tricks at Old Trafford. Ronaldo, let's remember, had not scored in the Champions League proper before tonight.

2107: 'Are you City in disguise?' is the cry at Old Trafford. To be fair, that's a bit harsh on City.

2106: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer comes on to join the party at Old Trafford, replacing Ryan Giggs.

2103: GOAL Man Utd 6-0 Roma (agg 7-2)
Yes, you read that right, that's SIX. Roma's defence don't bother closing down Michael Carrick and the midfielder thunders in a 25-yard effort.

2102: Chelsea seem to have rattled their Spanish opponents. Roberto Ayala is booked for elbowing Didier Drogba. He'll miss the first leg of the semis if Valencia win this tie.

2101: Andriy Shevchenko unleashes a stunning shot which bends just wide with Santiago Canizares beaten.

"Chelsea still have a lot of work to do but I think they can pull it off."
BBC Five Live analyst Mark Bright

2057: Drogba is back on but still limping.

2056: Didier Drogba is hobbling off. Meanwhile at Old Trafford, John O'Shea has a calf problem and is replaced by Patrice Evra.

    2053: GOAL Valencia 1-1 Chelsea (agg 2-2)
Hope for Chelsea. Michael Essien's cross eventually falls for Andriy Shevchenko, who makes no mistake from two yards out. As it stands, we'll be going into extra time.

2052: GOAL Man Utd 5-0 Roma (agg 6-2)
United are off and running again. Ryan Giggs delivers a stunning cross which just evades Alan Smith but Cristiano Ronaldo is at the far post to tap in.

2051: Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard gets a yellow card for an ugly late tackle on Raul Albiol.

2049: A very contented Sir Alex Ferguson emerges after half-time and tells the crowd to make some noise. We're under way again at Old Trafford.

2048: Chelsea make a change as Joe Cole comes on for Lassana Diara. Michael Essien moves to right-back.

2046: Chelsea get the second half under way at the Mestalla.

2041: Valencia strike pair Fernando Morientes and David Villa have both polled over 8 on the Player Rater. Didier Drogba leads the way for Chelsea with a pretty miserable 6.67. Change it, go on...

2037: Not surprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo leads the Player Rater for Manchester United with 8.22, ahead of Wayne Rooney. Remember you can make the difference though...

2034: And it's half-time at Old Trafford. That was a breathtaking first-half display by United, who can surely start looking forward to a semi-final against AC Milan or Bayern Munich.

2032: Half-time at the Mestalla where Chelsea are teetering on the brink against a lively Valencia.

2031: Jose Mourinho has seen enough at the Mestalla and is off down the tunnel to put the kettle on.

2030: GOAL Man Utd 4-0 Roma (agg 5-2)
Ryan Giggs delivers the pass for Cristiano Ronaldo, who skips inside and arrows a low shot into the corner. Tie over, definitely.

2029: Nearly number four for United but Roma keeper Doni keeps out Michael Carrick's header. At the Mestalla, Joe Cole is warming up for Chelsea.

2027: Alan Smith gets a yellow card for an over-enthusiastic (ie late) challenge on the facemask-wearing Cristian Chivu.

2024: So close for Chelsea. Didier Drogba meets Ashley Cole's cross with a firm header but Valencia keeper Santiago Canizares responds with a flying save.

2022: Chelsea seem unable to cope with Valencia's pace and link-up play at the moment. Jose Mourinho sits emotionless on the bench - could he be considering a tactical change?

    2016: GOAL Valencia 1-0 Chelsea (agg 2-1)
Second time lucky for Fernando Morientes. Joaquin crosses from the right and Chelsea's defence is nowhere to be seen as the former Liverpool striker slides in to put Valencia ahead.

2015: David Villa drives from midfield and feeds Fernando Morientes, whose thunderous shot cannons back off Petr Cech's right-hand post. A massive let-off for Jose Mourinho's side.

2013: England boss Steve McClaren is at Old Trafford enjoying a silky performance from Manchester United so far. It's been pointed out that I may have been a bit hasty in calling this tie over. I'm going to stubbornly stand by it though.

2011: Over at the Mestalla, still no shots on target. Or any shots to speak of really.

2005: GOAL Man Utd 3-0 Roma (agg 4-2)
Sizzling stuff from United. Cristiano Ronaldo to Alan Smith, who finds Ryan Giggs running down the right. Wayne Rooney times his run to perfection to meet Giggs' cross. It's all over.

2003: GOAL Man Utd 2-0 Roma (agg 3-2)
Ferguson's tactical switch is a masterstroke. Cristian Chivu fails to cut out Ryan Giggs' cross and Alan Smith strokes in to put United in complete control.

2000: That was Carrick's first Champions League goal and what a time to score it. United just need to keep the scoreline the same and they're through. Easy.

1958: GOAL Man Utd 1-0 Roma (agg 2-2)
What a start for United. Cristiano Ronaldo races down the right and feeds Michael Carrick, who curls home a stunner from 25 yards.

1952: Roma's Francesco Totti fizzes a long-range effort narrowly past the post. An early warning for United.

1950: Valencia striker David Villa goes down and stays down after a clash with Chelsea's Mikel Jon Obi. The referee waves away the free-kick claims as the crowd make their feelings known.

1947: Michael Essien catches Fernando Morientes late and gets a yellow card. He won't play in the semi-final first leg if Chelsea get there.

1946: Manchester United kick off the second leg at Old Trafford.

1945: Valencia get the game under way against Chelsea at the Mestalla.

1941: One of Roma's goalscorers from the first leg Rodrigo Taddei has been taken ill and won't feature at Old Trafford. He's replaced by Mirko Vucinic.

1939: Wayne Rooney apparently had an injury scare in the warm-up at Old Trafford but don't panic United fans, he's OK.

1937: Just a few minutes to go before kick-off and just time for me to remind you to rate the players on the brilliantly-named Player Rater...

1923: Alan Smith gives United "better options in the air", reckons one 606 user while another tells us "Solskjaer doesn't have the legs". All in all, a bit of support for Fergie's decision.

1914: Alan Smith gets his first Champions League start for 15 months. 15 months!!!!! What's Fergie up to? Let us know what you think on 606

1909: No sign of any trouble at the Mestalla - where BBC Five Live's Nigel Adderley reports that it is "unseasonably cold". Bet he wishes he was in London where it is stupidly warm for April.

"Alan Smith's inclusion is a brave, bold move from Sir Alex Ferguson."
    BBC Five Live's Alan Green

1859: For Valencia, Fernando Morientes returns after a shoulder injury. Manchester United's opponents Roma have playmaker Francesco Totti back after he sat out the weekend league game.

1856: Good news for Chelsea. Michael Essien is fit to start as Lassana Diara, Ashley Cole, Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko are all recalled. Chelsea line-up: Cech, Diarra, Carvalho, Terry, Cole, Essien, Mikel, Ballack, Lampard, Drogba, Shevchenko.

1850: We're still awaiting team news from Valencia's Estadio Mestalla. Chelsea's main concern is Michael Essien who is battling to overcome a knee injury.

1845: The teams are in from Old Trafford and this is a shock... Alan Smith starts ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Manchester United line-up: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Brown, Ferdinand, Heinze, Ronaldo, Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs, Rooney, Smith.

1835: Bit of bad news to report. There have been minor scuffles outside Old Trafford, with Greater Manchester Police reporting that they have been required to deal with "a number of small and isolated incidents". Let's hope that's the end of it.

1825: Darren Fletcher is expected to come into Manchester United's midfield for the suspended Paul Scholes, but we're still awaiting the team line-ups from Old Trafford where United must overcome a 2-1 first-leg deficit. Why not have a tinker with BBC Sport's Squad Selector while we're waiting...
