Dinamo Zagreb's former German international defender Jens Nowotny has been forced to retire at the age of 33 because of a knee problem.

He only managed 10 games for Zagreb before being hit by the injury.
"To think I may have to wait another 10 months through physiotherapy and returning to training - this is enough," said the 33-year-old.
"We've agreed to go our separate ways. I wanted to finish here but before the winter break I felt pain in my knee."
He made a total of 48 international appearances and was still part of Germany coach Joachim Low's plans leading up to Euro 2008.
