Marcos Senna, who had been linked with a summer move to Manchester United, has agreed a new contract at Villarreal.
The Spain midfielder, 30, who was out of contract at the end of the current season, will now stay with the Primera Liga outfit until 2010.
"Despite everything that was said during the summer, what I really wanted was to stay here," said Senna.
"I am convinced that the club will win something soon and I wanted to be here when that happens."
The Brazilian-born Senna has been with Villarreal since 2002 and helped the club reach the semi-finals of last season's Champions League.
He first played for his adopted country in March 2006, having been granted Spanish citizenship, and was a member of Spain's World Cup squad in Germany over the summer.
