Materazzi signs new deal at Inter
Inter Milan's Italy international defender Marco Materazzi
Materazzi has been given a new deal at Inter
Italy's World Cup-winning defender Marco Materazzi has signed an improved four-year deal at Inter Milan.

He was at the centre of Zinedine Zidane's sending off in the World Cup final between France and Italy - when he was headbutted by the Frenchman.

But the 32-year-old former Everton player's new French team-mate Patrick Vieira does not bear any grudges.

"There won't be any problems, I will pay him my compliments," said Vieira, who signed from Juventus on Wednesday.

Vieira added: "We French are still a little shocked but in Italy you need to talk more about the World Cup win rather than insisting on the Zidane headbutt."

Fifa banned Zidane for three games and fined him £3,260 over the incident against Italy but the ban is academic because he retired from football after the tournament in Germany.

Materazzi was suspended for two internationals and fined £2,170 for provoking Zidane.

The Italian's new contract at Inter adds an extra year to his current deal and includes improved terms.
