Inter Milan have completed the £11m signing of Argentine defender Walter Samuel from Real Madrid.
Samuel failed to win over the fans at Real Madrid
The 27-year-old signed a four-year deal after a medical and can play in the Champions League third qualifying round, first leg with Shakhtar Donetsk.
He joined Real on a five-year deal in the summer of 2004 for £18.5m but failed to win over the Bernabeu fans.
He has plenty of Serie A experience, having spent four seasons at Roma, with whom he won the Serie A title in 2001.
Samuel said that he expected Inter - who finished third in the league last season behind champions Juventus and local rivals AC Milan - to challenge for the title this term.
"We have a very strong squad and all we have to find is the right team spirit to win the championship," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I don't feel we are far behind the likes of Juve and Milan. They have both made good signings but Inter have also strengthened the squad. I believe we start on a par with them."
Samuel is the second player Inter have signed from Madrid following the capture of midfielder Santiago Solari.
And they hope to make it a third by the end of the week by bringing unsettled Portuguese winger Luis Figo to the San Siro.
