Carmarthen 5-1 Longford
(Carmarthen win 5-3 on aggregate)

Carmarthen Town produced a stunning victory to progress into the Uefa Cup second qualifying round with a 5-3 aggregate win over Irish side Longford.

The Welsh side's hopes looked to be over when an Andrew Myler penalty had equalised Danny Thomas' early opener.

But Carmarthen threw caution to the wind after the break and hit the Irish Cup holders with a four-goal blitz.

Gary Lloyd struck twice, Thomas added his second before Nathan Cotterall sealed the win 10 minutes from time.

"It was a fantastic win," said Lloyd, who tasted European success with Barry Town in the Champions League four years ago.

"We didn't really expect it but the boys showed a great attitude and I think we thoroughly deserved the win."

The victory at Newtown is the biggest ever by a Welsh Premier side in European competitions since the league's inception in 1992.
