Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez singled out striker Fernando Morientes after his side's comfortable 3-0 win over Anderlecht on Tuesday.
Morientes has struggled for goals since his move from Real Madrid, but got on the scoresheet with a well-taken goal against Anderlecht at Anfield.
"I'm delighted, they played well and scored three good goals," he said.
"One came from Fernando, which is important for him and us. We have three more points and a lot of confidence."
Chelsea's surprise defeat to Real Betis saw Liverpool take a three-point lead at the top of Group G.
But Benitez warned his players not to take qualification for the next stage of the Champions League for granted with a draw over Betis still needed to be sure.
"We still need to play Betis, and I know they are very good away from home," said Benitez.
"They have very quick strikers and we need to be very aware of what is needed.
"If we win we will have qualified, but I do not want to say yet that we are there."
