Debrecen 0-3 Man Utd
Gabriel Heinze celebrates scoring against Debrecen
Man Utd win 6-0 on aggregate

Manchester United eased into the group stage of the Champions League with a 6-0 aggregate win over Debrecen.

Gabriel Heinze's header settled United down after Gary Neville was stretchered off and Debrecen's Zsombor Kerekes and Tamas Sandor had missed good chances.

Heinze scored another header and substitute Kieran Richardson made it 3-0 with a powerful 20-yard strike.

Richardson limped off with 20 minutes left and United, who had used all their substitutes, finished with 10 men.

The injuries to Neville and Richardson were the only real negative points on an otherwise satisfactory evening for United.

Neville went down after crossing the ball in the first half and is expected to be out for up to five weeks, meaning he will miss England's forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Richardson had an ice pack on his left knee after he was withdrawn, with United playing Ruud van Nistelrooy as a lone striker.

After Heinze scored his first in the 20th minute, Sir Alex Ferguson's team took control of the match.

Yet until that moment United had appeared vulnerable and Debrecen had created two good openings.

A deep corner was headed back across goal by Peter Mate and fell invitingly to Sandor, but the midfielder snatched at his shot and the ball flew over the crossbar.

Dombi then found himself with plenty of time to pick his spot after a deep cross eluded the United defence.

But Dombi dallied for too long and opted to square the ball to Kerekes, who failed to make a clean contact and shot wide.

United's uncertain start also saw Neville stretchered off and Alan Smith, playing in the centre of midfield, booked.

But the complexion of the game changed when Heinze put United in front with his far-post header.

Heinze had scored in the same stadium for Argentina last week and the goal visibly deflated Debrecen, while United started to find their rhythm.

Smith headed wide from a corner while both he and Cristiano Ronaldo had shots saved before the half ended.

In first-half injury time Rio Ferdinand attempted an ambitious turn and was caught in possession, Heinze subsequently gave away a free-kick as he tried to retrieve the situation and Debrecen almost scored.

Sandor's low shot forced a save from Van der Sar and the Dutch keeper needed the help of his team-mates to hack away the rebound.

Debrecen threatened again a minute into the second half, Dombi shooting from a tight angle and forcing Van der Sar to make another save.

But Heinze took the sting out of the match once more, rising unchallenged to head home a free-kick from Ryan Giggs, who was making his first start of the season.

Substitute Richardson componded Debrecen's misery, controlling a sqaure pass from Ronaldo with his first touch and smashing the ball past Norbert Csernyanszki from the edge of the area with his second.

Debrecen wasted another good chance when Bojan Brnovic shot wide, while United played the last 20 minutes with 10-men after Richardson limped off.
