Bnei Sachnin 1-5 Newcastle
(Newcastle win 7-1 on aggregate)

Alan Shearer
Alan Shearer bagged a hat-trick as Newcastle eased past Bnei Sachnin to reach the Uefa Cup group stage.

Patrick Kluivert slotted in Jermaine Jenas' pass to give Newcastle the lead, but Alain Masudi fired home to level.

Shearer hit the 350th goal of his club career to regain the lead and Kluivert then converted Laurent Robert's pass.

Shearer notched a penalty after a foul on Jenas and Bnei Sachnin keeper Energy Murambadoro was sent off for handball before Shearer lashed in for his third.

Newcastle began brightly, keen to put the tie beyond doubt, and Craig Bellamy's pace was causing the hosts problems down the right-hand side.

It took just nine minutes for the Magpies to take control, Jenas getting into the box and cutting the ball back for Kluivert to coolly slot home from 12 yards.

But the Israelis stunned Graeme Souness' men just four minutes later as Newcastle failed to deal with a free-kick and Ahmed Kassum crossed for Masudi to steer past Shay Given.

Bnei Sachnin were proving every bit as competitive as they were at St James' Park and their physical approach was causing Newcastle some discomfort.

The visitors were still trying to play their football and a cross in to Shearer was headed down by the former England captain, the ball just eluding the onrushing Bowyer.

Soon after Bowyer's tame shot was spilled by Energy Murambadoro and it fell straight for Shearer, the 34-year-old making no mistake from just four yards out.

Newcastle now looked like scoring at will, and a Robert pass slipped in Kluivert to rifle home a killer third just before the break.

Shearer looked keen to add to his tally after the break and, after being denied once by some last-gasp defending, he slotted home from the penalty spot after Jenas had been fouled in the box.

Souness took the opportunity to give Kluivert a rest after his two-goal salvo and James Milner got the chance to impress.

But it was Murambadoro who shone when he magnificently palmed Bellamy's brilliant volley away from the top corner.

Bellamy could barely hide his frustration at not scoring and another burst through the middle ended with the Welshman being penalised for using his hand.

With the game over both sides looked keen to run down time, but Bowyer drilled in another shot that Murambadoro got down comfortably to save.

With three minutes to go the keeper received his marching orders, sent off for handling outside the box as Bellamy looked certain to finally grab his goal.

Shearer completed his hat-trick with the last kick of the game as he took Milner's pass and smashed a 20-yard left-foot shot into the bottom corner.
