Bayern Munich have confirmed coach Ottmar Hitzfeld will leave the club at the end of this season.
Bayern have suffered a poor campaign, being knocked out of the Champions League at the first knockout stage and set to finish second in the league.
"I told Ottmar [that he would leave] and he accepted it," said Bayern executive manager Uli Hoeness.
Hitzfeld was linked with the England job last year and has been mentioned in connection with the Chelsea post.
"Uli Hoeness told me the club had decided otherwise," he
told German television.
"I have always been a fighter and I would have liked to carry on, even though there would have been a lot of pressure.
"But the club didn't want it because the pressure on everyone would have been immense.
"Maybe if we'd won against Bremen and Stuttgart, the situation would have been different."
VfB Stuttgart coach Felix Magath is widely considered to be poised to replace Hitzfeld.
