David Beckham met up with his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday as the squad underwent pre-season fitness checks ahead of Real Madrid's tour of the Far East.
Beckham has been getting in shape for the new season
Beckham is in the process of learning Spanish, but the £25m summer signing had few
problems communicating with his team-mates, according to Real's sporting director Jorge Valdano.
"There's a universal language of football," said Valdano after the session at the club's training ground.
"It was just very normal having him here because David is a quiet player, timid even.
"There isn't much difference between having Beckham or [reserve defender] Borja in the dressing room."
Beckham could make his first appearance in a Real Madrid shirt during the opening match of their tour against the Dragon Team in Beijing on 2 August.
Real will then play FC Tokyo three days later, and the China national team in Hong Kong on 8 August.
The England captain is expected to make his Primera Liga debut at home to Real Betis on 31 August at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
Real's first derby of the season against Barcelona - who Beckham turned down to join Real - will be at the Nou Camp on 7 December.
Meanwhile, Real striker Ronaldo returned to the club looking lean and fit, in contrast to last season when the Brazilian came in for criticism over his weight and fitness.
The 26-year-old lost around five kilograms in weight over the summer break and has set himself and the team some big targets.
"I have many objectives, namely to win everything and to score a lot of goals," he said.
