Contra has spent one season at AC Milan

Atletico Madrid brought in a fifth player from Italian club AC Milan when they completed the signing of Romanian international Cosmin Contra before Monday's transfer deadline.

The Spanish club signed the right-back on a five-year contract for a reported £5.5m from Milan.

Real swoop for Ronaldo

Contra will join Demetrio Albertini, Jose Mari Romero, Javi Moreno and Fabricio Coloccini, who have joined either on loan or permanently from the San Siro during the summer.

Contra, who began his career in Romania with Timisoara before a spell at Dinamo Bucharest, was at Spanish side Alaves before his one season with AC Milan.

Contra was unable to win a regular first team place at Milan and the recent arrival of Croat defender Dario Simic pushed him further down the pecking order.
