Hiddink back at PSV
Hiddink will stay on as an advisor to South Korea
Guus Hiddink has been confirmed as the new manager of Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
The outgoing South Korea coach had been linked with the Leeds United but has signed a two-year deal with PSV.
Hiddink started his coaching career at PSV - as an assistant coach in 1983. He had played there and went on to become head coach, leading them to the Dutch League championship three times and to the European Cup in 1988.
Hiddink was given a hero's send-off by hundreds of fans in Seoul before flying back to Holland. Since turning South Korea into the first Asian team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup, the former Real Madrid boss has become the most popular foreigner in the country's history. He has been made an honorary citizen and handed huge bonuses, advertising contracts, a holiday home, free first-class air travel, a luxury limousine and free insurance.
He will continue to work as an advisor for the 2004 Olympics and 2006 World Cup campaigns. Hiddink also took Holland to the 1998 World Cup and, as well as Real Madrid, he has coached Valencia, Fenerbahce and Real Betis.
Hiddink also said he wants to take talented young Korean players to Europe to improve their experience in tougher leagues. "I have not made a decision yet on which players I would like to take with me to Europe," he said. "They could be younger than those in the World Cup squad." |
