Real deal for Pavon
Francisco Pavon has worked his way through the ranks at Real Madrid
Pavon has committed to Real Madrid until 2009
Real Madrid defender Francisco Pavon has signed a new seven-year contract with the club.

The Spanish giants announced the deal on their website on Thursday after the 21-year-old agreed terms.

Pavon was thrust into the first team in October following injury to regular full-back Aitor Karanka and was an instant success.

He hasn't missed a league game since his Primera Liga bow, and has importantly forged a staunch partnership with Fernando Hierro at the heart of defence.

Lifelong ambition

Pavon said his new contract is a dream come true.

"I can't ask for any more than this," Pavon said. "All I've ever wanted is to play for Real Madrid."

Real president Florentino Perez said earlier this year that the club would only be drawn into the transfer market if the world's best were on offer and would otherwise place faith in local product.

Real have broken world transfer fee records twice during Perez's reign, first for world footballer of the year Luis Figo and then France midfielder Zinedine Zidane.

But the club has been good to its word, promoting second and third-team talent such as Pavon, Ruben Gonzalez, Raul Bravo and Oscar Minambres also.
