Parma appoint Passarella
Passarella captained Argentina to World Cup glory
Parma have named Argentina's Daniel Passarella as their new head coach - a day after Carlo Ancelotti turned down the job to take over at AC Milan.
Former Argentina coach Passarella has signed a contract until 2003 and replaces Renzo Ulivieri, who resigned last week after less than a year in charge. Ancelotti, a former Parma and Juventus coach, was Parma's first choice, but went to Milan after the surprise sacking of Turkish coach Fatih Terim on Monday. Passarella, who starred for Serie A team's Inter Milan and Fiorentina, captained Argentina's World Cup-winnining side in 1978. He also coached the national team, taking them to the quarter finals of the 1998 World Cup. The 48-year-old, known for his strict discipline, resigned as coach of the Uruguay last February. The club said Passarella was expected to take his first practice with Parma on Wednesday after arriving from Buenos Aires.
