Rivaldo surges past Arkadiusz Glowacki of Wisla
A Rivaldo hat-trick gave Barcelona a hard-won 4-3 victory over Polish side Wisla Krakow in their Champions League qualifying round first leg match on Wednesday.

Rivaldo scored the winner in the 72nd minute after a clever pass from Patrick Kluivert left the Brazilian with a clear shot from the middle of the penalty area.

Kluivert was himself on target in the 57th minute to bring Barcelona level at 3-3 after the Spanish side had fallen behind for the third time.

Wisla's Grzegorz Pater headed home crosses in the 22nd and 32nd minutes.

Then Tomasz Frankowski pounced on a deflection by Barca's goalkeeper Roberto Bonano in the 37th minute as the Poles had the better of the first half.

Rivaldo, playing despite Brazilian protests that the national team needed him for their friendly against Panama on Thursday, scored a penalty in the 31st minute.

Three minutes later he added his second by neatly redirecting a through-ball inside the box.

Two Italian teams were less fortunate in their first legs.

Parma were rolled over 2-0 at home to unfancied Lille.

After having the better chances in a goalless first half, the French side took the lead within a minute of the restart when Christoph Landrin scored from a cross by Fernando D'Amico.

Lille doubled their lead 10 minutes from the end in spectacular style when defender Johnny Ecker smashed a 30-metre free-kick into the top corner of the net.

Serie A giant Lazio fell victim to a spirited performance by FC Copenhagen.

The Danish outfit dominated the game but were unable to create any real goal-scoring opportunities in the first half as the Lazio defence held firm.

Argentine striker Hernan Crespo connected perfectly with a Stefano Fiore cross to put Lazio ahead in the 56th minute.

But Copenhagen fought hard to recover and were rewarded with a 73rd-minute penalty, which Jacob Laursen converted.

Sinisa Mihajlovic was Lazio's guilty man as the referee spotted a foul on Copenhagen captain Christian Loenstrup.

Danish striker Heine Fernandez then gave Copenhagen what could yet be a decisive advantage when he hammered the ball in from close range with five minutes left.

Violence flared before the match in Istanbul between Turkey's Galatasaray and Bulgarian visitors Levski Sofia.

On the pitch, though, Galataray won 2-1 with goals from Umit Davan and Umit Davala, before Georgi Ivanov pulled back a potentially life-saving away goal.

Croatia's Hadjuk Split, the favourite team of Wimbledon champion, Goran Ivanisevic, shocked Spain's Real Mallorca 1-0 with a goal from Mate Bilic.

Elsewhere, Inter Bratislava held Rosenborg to a 3-3 draw, while Slavia Prague surrendered their home advantage to Panathinaikos in a 2-1 defeat.

Dynamo Kiev secured an impressive 4-2 away win against Steau Bucharest, while Red Star Belgrade and Bayer Leverkusen fought out a scoreless draw.

The return legs legs are in two weeks' time.
