Leverkusen sack Vogts
Berti Vogts
Berti Vogts coached Germany to success at Euro 96
Former Germany coach Berti Vogts has been sacked by Bayer Leverkusen despite seeing them to fourth place in the Bundesliga.

Ex-German international Vogts, 54, is expected to be replaced by Klaus Toppmoller, the former coach of VfL Bochum.

Vogts joined Leverkusen in November on a contract until June 2003 after Christoph Daum was forced to quit after admitting he had taken cocaine.

Leverkusen snatched fourth place and a Champions League play-off spot in Saturday's final league games with a 1-0 win over Bochum.

However, Leverkusen fell in the preliminary phase of the Champions League this season, and then lost in third round of the Uefa Cup at the hands of AEK Athens.

Leverkusen finished second in the league behind Bayern Munich in 1999 and 2000.
