Leonardo seeks homecoming
Leonardo
Milan's Leonardo is looking to go back to Brazil
AC Milan's Brazilian star Leonardo is seeking a return to his country of birth and the club where he began his career.

The midfielder, who is under contract until the end of the season, is hoping that the Italian giants will allow him to make the move to Flamengo in January.

"My situation here is a bit strange", said Leonardo. "Staying here at Milan makes no sense. Injuries have stopped me playing with continuity so I have asked the club to let me go a few months early.

Career decision

"Milan is still close to my heart, however, and whatever decision is taken will be taken in accordance with the club which I informed of my problems a few days ago.

"I merely informed the directors what my problems are and we will decide quietly together. If (coach Alberto) Zaccheroni needs me I will stay until the end of June."

Thirty-one-year-old Leonardo - full name Leonardo Nascimento do Araujo - made it clear he would not be looking for another Italian club, saying he would return ideally to Flamengo.

Leonardo has also played with Sao Paulo, Valencia and Japanese outfit Kashima Antlers. He joined Milan from Paris St Germain.
