Russia coach Guus Hiddink lavished praise on his team
Russia coach Guus Hiddink revealed his satisfaction at the resilience shown by his players to bounce back from their defeat against Spain to beat Greece.
A 1-0 win against the holders means they will reach the quarter-finals if they defeat Sweden on Wednesday.
Hiddink said: "Everyone fought hard for a good result.
"In modern football you have to be very tough and not give any chances away. I'm very glad that I now know Russian players can react when it's needed."
He added: "They showed tonight that they know what high-level, high-standard football is. I'm very happy they reacted very fast.
"The game will be a different game against Sweden. They are tough and they are experienced."
But Hiddink conceded Russia had wasted chances to make the game more comfortable as they had to survive Greek pressure late on.
He stated: "We should have killed the game earlier. When you have five or six chances, you should score 50% of them but we played good football and everyone did their job defensively."
