Nicolas Anelka is confident he can help deliver Euro 2008 glory for France ahead of their opening Group C game against Romania on Monday.

The Chelsea striker, who has missed out on three World Cups and Euro 2004, is aiming to make amends in Zurich.

"This time I want to show what I am able to do in a great competition - I can be better than during Euro 2000," said Anelka, who has 48 France caps.

"I want to play behind a main striker. It is where I feel I am most useful."

Anelka hopes to feature for coach Raymond Domenech against the Romanians at the Letzigrund Stadion.

But the 29-year-old faces a battle with Karim Benzema to partner likely starter Thierry Henry.

And Anelka hopes to bury the disappointment of being overlooked for the 1998, 2002, 2006 World Cups, plus the last Euro tournament in Portugal.

"The coach will make the final decision and we will see on Monday," he added.

"We don't care who will start as we have a very good relationship. I am very serene.

Anelka's only title with France came eight years ago, but he failed to score in five games before being dropped for the final against Italy.
