Hickersberger's side scored just one goal in the tournament
Coach Josef Hickersberger pointed to Austria's lack of firepower as the reason behind their Euro 2008 exit.
The co-hosts were knocked out after a 1-0 loss to neighbours Germany.
"We weren't able to do up front what we had hoped," said Hickersberger, who was sent to the stands with Germany coach Joachim Low just before half-time.
Austria team manager Andreas Herzog criticised that decision, adding: "Neither did anything and I think the referee wanted to get attention."
Herzog added: "It was a normal match but the second half was not easy because of the unrest of the coaches being gone."
Herzog also insisted that Austria had much to be proud of from their three games at Euro 2008.
"We have a very young team and they're all depressed in the dressing room right now," Herzog said.
"With two years of hard work we've been able to show that people can play good football in Austria."
