The new Estadio Algarve was built with a futuristic design between the towns of Faro and Loule.
From the outside, the stadium looks like a huge tent-style pavilion.
The stands at the north and south ends will later be removed to make way for an athletics track
The stadium is situated in the Cities' Park, where other facilities include a botanical garden, lake and golf course.
Focus on Faro/Loule
Faro and Loule lie in the Algarve, one of Europe's top tourist destinations and a certain destination for many football fans during the tournament.
Plenty of Meditteranean sunshine and more than 20 golf courses in the region mean visitors can divide their time between golden beaches and golf greens.
Further along the coast to the west is the party hotspot of Albufeira, a magnet for revellers with its 900 bars.
And nearby Vilamoura is home to the popular Sete (or Seven) bar owned by Portuguese footballer Luis Figo.
