Ricardo Cabanas is an attacking midfielder with the knack of arriving in the box at just the right time.
After overcoming arthritis in his knee at the age of just 15, Cabanas established himself at Grasshoppers Zurich and won two Swiss titles.
He moved on to French side Guingamp in 2003 but failed to settle and returned to Zurich just six months later.
Born to an Italian mother and Spanish father, Cabanas adopted Swiss nationality through birth.
As captain of the Under-21s he led the team to the 2002 European Championship semi-finals before graduating to the senior side along with six of his colleagues.
Cabanas sat out the decisive Euro 2004 qualifier against Republic of Ireland through suspension but scored the winner against Albania earlier in the campaign.
Did you know? Cabanas' family comes from the Spanish city of La Coruna.
