Russia captain Viktor Onopko has been ruled out of Euro 2004 because of a knee problem.
Onopko is on the verge of breaking Russia's appearance record
The 34-year-old defender suffered the injury last month and general manager Alexander Chernov said: "He has already left the squad and has gone home."
Fellow centre-half Sergei Ignashevich pulled out of the squad on Tuesday because he requires knee surgery.
Striker Alexander Panov will also miss out because he is not deemed fit enough to cope with Portugal's hot weather.
Portsmouth's Alexei Smertin has been made captain in Onopko's absence.
