Steven Gerrard has insisted England will not be settling for anything less than victory against France in their opening match of Euro 2004 on Sunday.
The midfielder said England would respect France but would not fear their star players.
"We're confident we can get three points and were confident we can get off to a winning start," Gerrard told BBC Radio Five Live.
"It'd be really negative settling for a draw. We're aiming for the win."
The Liverpool star is likely to feature in a four-man England midfield alongside David Beckham, Paul Scholes and either Nicky Butt or Frank Lampard.
And he insisted that England had plenty of top-quality players to counter the big names in the France side.
Gerrard added: "We're not fearful of meeting Zidane, Henry, Pires and all their dangerous men.
"I don't think it would do us any favours going into a game fearing anybody. We've got to go in confident.
"We'll show them a lot of respect because they deserve it, they're world class players.
"Let them worry about us because we've got world class players as well."
