Clockwatch: Italy 1-1 Sweden

Goalflashes and major incidents:

FULL-TIME: The referee blows up for full-time as Italy pay the price for their negative approach in the second half.

90 mins + 2: Panucci heads wide from a corner as Italy desperately try to restore their lead.

90 mins: Pirlo's 's free-kick finds Vieri about 15 yards out, and the striker cannot direct a difficult chance on target.

89 mins: Vieri has another headed chance, but yet again he puts it over the bar.

84 mins: GOAL - Italy 1-1 Sweden
Ibrahimovic equalises for Sweden with an incredible finish. After a goalmouth scramble with the ball bouncing everywhere, the big striker flicks the ball behind himself with his back to goal, sending the ball looping over Vieri on the line.

81 mins: Del Piero goes off with Camoranesi - a more defensive-minded player - coming on. Italy look to be settling for a 1-0 win and will be going all out to protect their slim lead.

79 mins: Sweden create another opportunity with an exquisite Larsson chip over the top finding Jonson, but his header is misdirected and goes over.

77 mins: Larsson puts Jonson in behind the defence but an astounding stop by Buffon saves his side. The goalkeeper flings himself to his right to get a strong hand to Jonson's low drive which had looked set for the bottom corner.

76 mins: Sweden bring on another attacker with Edman making way for Allback.

74 mins: Linderoth is ruled out of Sweden's last group match against Denmark after receiving a booking for a silly tackle on Gattuso. The Italy midfielder, though not badly injured, comes off with Favolli coming into the action.

71 mins: A good header from Kallstrom almost puts Larsson in, but Buffon is alert and comes off his line quickly to collect the ball.

70 mins: Italy take off goalscorer Cassano with Fiore coming on to bolster their midfield.

69 mins: Sweden are starting to establish a foothold in the match as they push for an equaliser. They are retaining possession far better than in the first half.

66 mins: Sweden make another change with Jonson coming on in place of Wilhelmsson.

59 mins: Kallstrom's well-struck shot bounces in front of Buffon, but the Italy goalkeeper keeps his concentration to get everything behind it and hold on comfortably.

57 mins: Another yellow card, this time it is Zambrotta for a badly-timed tackle on Wilhelmsson.

56 mins: A delightful effort from Del Piero is cleared off the line by Jakobsson. Vieri plays his team-mate in with a lovely pass and Del Piero improvises a scooped shot over the keeper.

55 mins: Sweden make the first change with Kallstrom replacing Svensson in midfield.

54 mins: Del Piero gets underneath a decent heading chance and sends his effort off target.

53 mins: Edman gets booked for a tug on the shorts of Perrotto.

50 mins: Larsson has some space inside the penalty box, but mishits his shot into the crowd.

48 mins: Vieri goes close but his snap-shot from Panucci's centre is dragged in front of the near post.

46 mins: Cannavaro goes into the referee's book for a cynical foul on Ibrahimovic after the striker had knocked the ball past him on the right. It is Cannavaro's second yellow of the tournament meaning he - along with Gattuso - will miss Italy's next match.

HALF-TIME: the teams go into the interval with Italy comfortably in control of affairs. Sweden will have to start to keep possession if they are to get back into the game in the second half.

45 mins: On the stroke of half time, Panucci sends in another cross but this time Cassano's angled header falls into Isaksson's hands.

44 mins: Italy have had their confidence buoyed by the goal and are knocking the ball around to make Sweden toil in pursuit of possession.

38 mins: Gattuso collects the first yellow card of the match for an ugly challenge on Mellberg. The Italy midfielder will miss the next group match against Bulgaria.

36 mins: GOAL - Italy 1-0 Sweden
Cassano nods home delicately after a superb Panucci cross from the right. The full-back goes to the byeline before cutting back and crossing with his left foot. Cassano guides his header home with precision to give Italy the lead.

35 mins: Zambrotta is enjoying himself down the left flank but another tempting cross has no end result.

32 mins: Some lovely interplay from Italy puts Zambrotta in space again, but Vieri cannot keep his header down and another chance is wasted.

27 mins: Isaksson makes a great save as Del Piero's shot from 20 yards is deflected off Mellberg.

25 mins: Sweden have a possible penalty turned down as Ljungberg goes down in the box with Panucci in close proximity.

19 mins: Zambrotta makes a superb break into the Sweden penalty area and cuts the ball back for Del Piero, but the striker's well-struck shot goes into the side netting.

18 mins: Italy break through Sweden's offside trap, but a good cross from Cassano is headed well over by Vieri.

14 mins: Cassano has a chance to latch onto a ball over his shoulder but is put off by the rapidly advancing Isaksson and fails to make contact.

12 mins: A brilliant piece of vision from Ljungberg comes to nothing for Sweden. The midfielder bursts onto a through ball and delivers a perfect backheel into Ibrahimovic's path, but the striker blasts over.

7 mins: A fierce Gattuso drive forces a mistake from Sweden goalkeeper Isaksson, but Vieri cannot stab home the rebound. The Italian striker is given offside in any case.

5 mins: Nesta makes an assured start as he dispossesses Ibrahimovic before beating two men to start a new Italy attack.

3 mins: A long ball from Del Piero gives Vieri a sight of goal after he shrugs off Jakobsson but a sharp save from Isaksson saves Sweden.

1 min: Ibrahimovic tries to get on the end of a bouncing ball in the box, but is muscled out by some typically determined Italian defending.

1945 BST: Larsson and Ibrahimovic get the match underway for Sweden.

Team news:

Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni has rung the changes after having his hand forced by Francesco Totti's three-match suspension for spitting.

A 4-4-2 formation looks to be on the cards as AC Milan's Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso teaming up together in central midfield while Antonio Cassano will partner Christian Vieri up front.

Sweden replace injured defender Teddy Lucic with Christian Wilhemsson at right-back while Mikael Nilsson moves into midfield.
