Avram Grant keen to strengthen West Ham United midfield

West Ham manager Avram Grant hopes to be able to bring in new players to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.

Grant saw his side miss a chance to move out of the Premier League bottom three as they drew 1-1 with Everton

The Hammers boss is keen to add more midfield power, with Steve Sidwell set to arrive from Aston Villa.

"We didn't have a midfield player on the bench and it doesn't make it easy to work with," said Grant.

"We want a few players in more areas because we have a few long-term injuries but the owners are doing their best in a very difficult financial situation to make the team stronger."

The Hammers were held by the Toffees at Upton Park to stay 19th in the table, when a win would have lifted them to 17th place.

The home side took an early lead in the match when Tony Hibbert scored an own goal before Seamus Coleman hit back for Everton to seal a draw.

Grant hopes to strengthen midfield

But despite missing some chances which could have helped them build on the Boxing Day win over Fulham, Grant was satisfied.

"We've played two games in 48 hours and I'm very impressed - the boys gave everything," he added.

"We are improving consistently. It is not easy because we need to change the team every week and the players have reacted well."

But West Ham midfielder Scott Parker said he was "disappointed" with his side's failure to pick up all three points.

"After going 1-0 up it's a little disappointing, we needed to win today after the Fulham win," he said.

"But we've not lost and that's important and now we have an important game [against Wolves] at the weekend."

Moyes blames lack of finish

Everton manager David Moyes was left to rue his side's inability to finish clinically at Upton Park.

"I'm frustrated because I thought there were bits of our football that were good enough to take all three points," he said.

"I don't think the chances we made or created were enough. Overall I thought we were good enough to win but just couldn't do it.

"We're disappointed we didn't take the three points. We just didn't look like we had enough to finish it off at the top end."
