City's top scorer Tevez celebrates with Toure after putting his side ahead
By Chris Bevan
An early strike by Carlos Tevez ended Manchester City's two-month wait for a home Premier League goal and proved enough to see off a dogged Bolton side.
Tevez ran on to Yaya Toure's pass to fire home after four minutes.
City went on to dominate, going closest to a second when Mario Balotelli and then David Silva hit the woodwork.
But Bolton were given late hope when Aleksandar Kolarov was sent off for a second booking, and the home side had to survive a late spell of pressure.
For City to be hanging on at the end of a game they had controlled was a strange sight but as Roberto Mancini approaches the end of his first year as their manager he will know that nothing is straightforward at Eastlands.
A lack of cutting edge has undermined his side's challenge at the top of the table in recent weeks, so it must have been a huge relief for him when Tevez opened the scoring.

The Argentine striker ran on to Toure's slipped pass and notched his 10th league goal of the season with a low shot past Jussi Jaaskelainen into the bottom corner of the net.
At that stage City were rampant and looked capable of ripping through the Bolton defence at will, but some familiar frustration in front of goal was to follow for their fans.
City felt they should have had a penalty when Silva slammed a shot against Gary Cahill which replays showed had hit the defender's chest, then arm, but referee Andre Marriner waved their claims away.
Another decision went against City soon after when Silva was wrongly flagged offside before setting up Tevez to slot home.
Tevez showed his unhappiness with the officials soon afterwards when he slammed the ball against the advertising hoarding after being penalised. He was shown a yellow card which rules City's top scorer out of their trip to West Ham United next week.
Up until then, Bolton's best effort had been a deflected Martin Petrov free-kick which flew narrowly wide but the visitors responded with their best spell of the game, and some testing balls into the box.
It was City, though, who ended the half on the offensive, mainly thanks to Tevez - who tested Jaaskelainen again, set up Pablo Zabaleta with some sublime skill, and then fired narrowly wide.
Jaaskelainen produced a superb save to deny Zabaleta after the break and, when he was beaten, the post and then bar came to Bolton's rescue to deny first Balotelli and then the impressive Silva, who was dictating play.
Bolton did not reach required level - Coyle
The question was always going to be whether City would pay for failing to wrap up the points and a hint of their jittery finish came when Joe Hart made a hash of Sam Ricketts's hoisted free-kick and Vincent Kompany had to hack the ball off the line.
Then came Kolarov's dismissal following a rash challenge on Ricketts, and with 10 minutes left Bolton smelt blood.
City conceded an equaliser in injury time against Stoke City in their previous league game and Bolton poured forward hoping for a similar reward.
This time, despite heavy pressure from the visitors, Mancini's men held out - but they had to work far harder to secure the three points than they should have done.
