Roberto Mancini defends keeper Joe Hart over mistake

Man City must convert chances - Mancini

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini refused to blame goalkeeper Joe Hart for the goal his side conceded in the 1-1 draw with Blackburn at Eastlands.

England keeper Hart was involved in a mix-up with centre-back Kolo Toure as they failed to deal with a long ball and allowed Nikola Kalinic to score.

It was a rare blip for Hart who has been in superb form so far this season.

"It was a strange goal," said Mancini. "It can happen, this is football. Joe Hart is a good goalkeeper."

City equalised through Patrick Vieira and were denied a winner through a mixture of last-ditch defending by Rovers, an impressive performance by visiting keeper Paul Robinson and some poor finishing.

Carlos Tevez missed a number of chances for the ambitious home side, although Mancini cited his striker's international commitments with Argentina as a contributing factor.

"It was very difficult for him as he only arrived the day before the game. But I still thought he had a good match," said the City boss.

"We were very unlucky. We must have had 25 chances to score against Blackburn.

"It is very hard when teams put 10 players behind the ball but we have to try to find a solution."

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce hailed his side's performance in earning a point against a side with considerably more resources at their disposal.

"We have measured up to a club that should brushing us aside in terms of the quality of players they can afford, the wages they can pay and the limited budget we work on," he said.

Allardyce happy with 'excellent' Blackburn

"But good organisation, team spirit and hard working side can always cause an upset. Manchester City fans would see this result as an upset.

"Even towards the end we might have nicked another goal when Kalinic was through but Joe Hart made a good save. But hopefully this will boost our confidence.

"I was very pleased with our performance. We feel we got what we deserved after an outstanding team effort both in the way we defended and our possession of the ball."
