Manager Roy Hodgson agrees new 12-month deal at Fulham

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has signed a new 12-month rolling contract.

The 62-year-old, who took over in December 2007, led Fulham to seventh in the 2008/09 Premier League campaign, their highest top-flight finish.

The Cottagers are currently ninth and Hodgson told the club website: "It's nice they want me to stay. I've always made it clear I'm very happy here.

"For us, the real important factor is to continue this run of years in the Premier League."

Fulham have been impressive again this season beating Manchester United and Liverpool, among others, at Craven Cottage and advancing to the Europa League knockout stages, where they will face Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

Hodgson steered Fulham out of the relegation zone and on to safety after Lawrie Sanchez was sacked two years ago.

Since then Hodgson has forged himself a competitive unit at Craven Cottage, with astute signings like Norway defender Brede Hangeland, Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and Hungary midfielder Zoltan Gera.

"The club and the team are growing constantly and we are always running as fast as we can to make sure we don't go backwards, so it's nice to know that I'm going to be here for the years to come to enjoy that work," said Hodgson.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the chairman Mohamed Al Fayed, the fans and staff at the club for the faith they have shown in me during my time at Fulham.

"We will of course continue to work tirelessly to ensure that continued success is enjoyed on the pitch in the years to come."

The multi-lingual Englishman made an inauspicious start to his managerial career when he was sacked after a short stint with Bristol City.

But he led Malmo to five consecutive championships and two Swedish Cups before guiding Switzerland to the 1994 World Cup finals and Euro 96.

Hodgson has also managed Italian side Inter Milan and had an ill-fated spell with Blackburn Rovers in 1998 before becoming Finland coach.
