Arsenal security pleases Ferguson

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is happy Arsenal will provide increased stewarding around the dug-out for Saturday's Premier League clash.

The Gunners have reviewed the security to try to prevent fans getting too close to the manager after last year's 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

"Last year was pretty unsavoury. In fact, I think it was nasty," Ferguson said. "It is too open for my liking.

"It should not happen when you build a modern stadium. You need tin helmets."

Arsenal used to play at Highbury and moved across north London to the Emirates Stadium, which opened in July 2006.

Ferguson's side are currently third in the Premier League - one place ahead of the Gunners - and Ferguson added: "It is quite right they have improved the security.

"It is a weakness in the planning that you don't provide safety for the visiting substitutes and staff."

Arsenal will travel to Old Trafford on 16 May for the return fixture.

Manager Arsene Wenger has urged the Arsenal fans to conduct themselves in the right manner this weekend.

"We always want to respect our opponent and to respect the dug-out," he said.

"The way we want to behave at Arsenal is to respect everybody."

Wenger defends Arsenal's mental strength

Wenger and Ferguson have been rivals for the past 12 years and the Frenchman still looks forward to their encounters.

"Of course I relish these battles because we are two fierce, passionate men and you know we are here to win football games," Wenger added.

"You do not last a long time in this job if you are not super-passionate about winning. We have that in common. I believe that over the years there is a respect there.

"The competition has been with Chelsea and Liverpool as well and that has diverted it a little bit."
