Bent relieved by Redknapp arrival

Bent says Redknapp has transformed the mood at Tottenham

Tottenham striker Darren Bent says Harry Redknapp's arrival as manager has lifted the club after morale dropped under former boss Juande Ramos.

Saturday's 2-1 win over Liverpool means Spurs have picked up seven points in three games since Redknapp took charge.

And Bent said: "At one stage the training ground was a horrible place to be. Everyone was down.

"But since Harry has come in everyone has had a new lease of life. That has shown in the performances."

Bent, who was signed for 16.5m by Martin Jol in June 2007, says he is not surprised that Ramos struggled while Redknapp has got results.

"It wasn't nice before," the 24-year-old explained. "Ramos came in and banished a lot of players to the reserves because he didn't want them.

"I never really got to know Ramos. He's a good manager, there is no debating that, but some things work and some things don't.

We had a bit of luck - Redknapp

"Sitting at the bottom of the table shows it didn't work with him. With Harry coming in, the proof is in the pudding.

"The one thing Harry has done in contrast with Juande to spark the revival is use people skills."

And, according to Bent, Ramos's lack of English was a big factor in Tottenham's problems.

"Harry can talk to people one to one and have a proper conversation with them and know what he's going on about," Bent added.

"He has made us believe that we're good players and that we shouldn't be where we are, whereas with Juande and the Spanish, it was a bit hard."

Redknapp hailed his side's character after they came from behind to beat Liverpool - but downplayed his own impact.

"We rode our luck at times but the character was fantastic.

"There's a smile about the place and you need to be positive with them," he said when asked about his input.

Benitez finds defeat at Spurs hard to take

"If I'm down and miserable, they're going to be down and miserable."

Liverpool took a third-minute lead through Dirk Kuyt and the visitors had numerous second-half chances to add to their lead.

But Jamie Carragher headed into his own net in the 70th minute before Roman Pavlyuchenko converted Bent's cross in injury-time to seal a valuable three points.

"We had a little bit of luck today and they were terrific, very difficult to play against," said Redknapp.

"We were more direct in the second half with two up front, I wanted to see if we could hit them earlier, and we did that much better.

"We kept going and never gave up, full credit to us."

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez was reluctant to criticise his players after they fell to their first defeat of the season.

"We played really well and we were creating enough chances to win the game," he said.

"It could have been 4-0 and to lose the game is unbelievable. We were really unlucky not to win.

"We have to win the next game but the mentality of the players will be high again."
