Berbatov set for derby debut

If he hasn't already watched the tape, Berbatov will surely be left purring by reports of Wayne Rooney's role in England's 4-1 over Croatia.

For a 30m frontman with a point to prove, who better to line up alongside for your debut against Liverpool than someone who had a hand in all of England's goals?

Many observers, including BBC football expert Mark Lawrenson, think that Rooney was helped by playing alongside Emile Heskey and that Berbatov could lift Rooney to greater heights.

"There were occasions for Tottenham when Berbatov was playing walking football and for a centre-forward that is unbelievable," said Lawrenson. "He won't have any problems settling in at Old Trafford and he could prove to be the perfect partner for Rooney.

"If you saw the match on Wednesday, Rooney was always within 10-15 yards of Heskey and that's the best place for him. When he plays through the middle he does things no other English player can do.

"The great thing for Rooney is that Berbatov will be on the same wavelength; he'll be fantastic to play off and everyone will see what a fantastic player he is."
