Chelsea 5-0 Newcastle
Chelsea sent out another warning to their title rivals by tearing Newcastle apart at Stamford Bridge.
Glen Johnson's first league goal opened the scoring for home side.
Hernan Crespo tapped in for the second before Andy O'Brien was adjudged to have fouled Adrian Mutu in the box.
O'Brien was sent-off and Frank Lampard scored from the spot before late goals from Damien Duff and Eidur Gudjohnsen completed the rout.
Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has been criticised for tinkering with his line-up this season.
But for first time he named an unchanged side, sticking with the team that beat Lazio 4-0 in the Champions League.
Newcastle were hit by the loss of skipper Alan Shearer with a throat infection.
25 mins: Johnson lashes home the first for Chelsea
40 mins: Crespo taps in the second goal
41 mins: O'Brien is sent-off for a professional foul on Mutu
42 mins: Lampard scores from the penalty spot
78 mins: Duff scores a fine solo effort
84 mins: Gudjohnsen heads home for the fifth
But Chelsea's attack was in full cry, with Damien Duff testing Shay Given and Lampard firing just wide from outside the box early on.
Chelsea's best attacks came down the left hand side with Duff and Wayne Bridge both looking dangerous.
A Bridge cross carved out the opening goal, with the ball finding its way to Johnson at the back post and he lashed it home.
Newcastle nearly replied when Shola Ameobi was put through by Lee Bowyer, but Carlo Cudicini came out to smother as he shaped to shoot.
A long ball forward deceived both Hugo Viana and Claude Makelele and fell invitingly for Robert but his header was brilliantly saved by Cudicini.
Newcastle's hopes of a first Premiership win at Stamford Bridge further diminished when Johnson's cross fell to Duff and his shot was deflected in from close range by Crespo.
Chelsea's third arrived two minutes later after Andy O'Brien slipped on the ball letting in Mutu.
With O'Brien desperately chasing back, he appeared to hold Mutu outside the area before the striker went down in the box.
The referee gave a penalty and sent off O'Brien, with Lampard rubbing salt into their wounds by smashing the spot-kick past Given.
With Newcastle reduced to 10 men the floodgates were expected to open.

The hosts continued to carve out chances but Veron shot wide and Lampard missed after Titus Bramble miskicked a clearance.
Veron then set up substitute Gudjohnsen who shot narrowly wide from a tight angle before a late flurry of goals.
Duff completed a fine individual performance by controlling a poor Given clearance and skipping past Stephen Caldwell to drill in shot.
And Gudjohnsen capped a delightful passing move by heading past Given to complete a memorable week for Chelsea.
